What is an AWS Solution Architect DevOps Engineer?

AWS Solution Architect DevOps Engineers are professionals who design and implement cloud-based solutions on Amazon Web Services (AWS) while integrating DevOps practices. They are responsible for creating scalable, reliable, and secure cloud architectures, as well as automating deployment, monitoring, and operations processes. These engineers bridge the gap between development and operations teams to ensure efficient delivery and management of cloud applications. Their expertise includes AWS services, infrastructure as code, continuous integration and delivery (CI/CD), and cloud security.

How does an AWS Solution Architect DevOps Engineer typically collaborate with development and operations teams in an organization?

An AWS Solution Architect DevOps Engineer acts as a bridge between development and operations by designing scalable cloud architectures and implementing automation pipelines. They work closely with developers to understand application requirements, and with operations teams to ensure deployments are reliable and secure. Collaboration often involves participating in code reviews, infrastructure planning meetings, and troubleshooting sessions to streamline the software delivery process. This cross-functional interaction ensures that cloud solutions are both technically sound and operationally efficient.

Job description

****REQUIRED IN OFFICE TWO DAYS A WEEK****
Our client is looking for a sharp, driven DevOps Engineer to help build, optimize, and secure the infrastructure.
This isn't a maintenance role. This is a foundational build opportunity, where you'll help to shape CI/CD pipelines, scale AWS infrastructure, drive automation and leave your fingerprints on a platform.
Here's what makes this role different:
  • You'll join an established DevOps team and bring real influence to how we build, scale, and operate - your expertise will shape decisions, not just execute them
  • You'll work across AWS, CI/CD, security, and observability, genuine full-spectrum DevOps work
  • You'll partner closely with development, architecture, and QA teams in a flat, collaborative environment where your voice carries weight
  • You'll help drive SOC 2 Type 2 and ISO 27001 compliance, meaningful, high-stakes work that matters
  • You'll join a company that has thrived for 25+ years with the agility and mission-focus most organizations lose along the way

If you're a DevOps engineer who's energized by building things right, moving fast without breaking things, and doing work that genuinely matters, keep reading.
As the DevOps Engineer you work with the infrastructure, software development, and data engineering teams. The primary focus of the DevOps Engineer will be to help the team build, maintain, and operate infrastructure to support our SaaS business. Further, you will also help to lay the foundation for creating processes and automation that will speed up product testing and deployment going forward.
Job Mission
To design, implement, and optimize DevOps infrastructure and processes that enable faster product testing, deployment, and operational scalability, ensuring the reliable delivery of the platform to their customers through efficient, scalable and cost-effective methodologies.
What you will do | Most important responsibilities of this role
  • Manage and Optimize CI/CD Pipelines - Build, maintain, and expand continuous integration and deployment pipelines to accelerate and improve product testing, development, and deployment.
  • Monitor performance - Proactively build out monitoring and alerting to measure and analyze system performance, assist engineering teams in trouble shooting, and discover opportunities for improvement.
  • Administer and Scale AWS Infrastructure - Maintain the existing AWS environment, provide expertise on multi-environment AWS infrastructure, and evaluate cloud services to ensure scalability, security, and cost efficiency.
  • Automate and Streamline Processes - Design and implement automated processes and testing workflows, system monitoring solutions, and developmental workflows, striving for continuous improvement in efficiency and performance.
  • Manage 3rd Party DevOps Tools - Administer and maintain a suite of third-party DevOps tools, including performance reporting, vulnerability scanning, and SIEM systems, ensuring reliable integrations, proper access controls, and up-to-date configurations and documentation.
  • Champion Security and Compliance - Ensure infrastructure and systems align with SOC 2 Type 2 and ISO 27001:2022 requirements by maintaining audit logging, access controls, and data encryption standards, while supporting annual compliance assessments and audits.

How you will do it | The ideal hire will...
  • Infrastructure Management: Administer AWS environments, ensuring multi-environment configurations align with best practices and supporting performance testing and improvement initiatives.
  • Automation and CI/CD: Create and optimize CI/CD pipelines to streamline testing and deployment, implement automated processes, and reduce manual intervention wherever possible.
  • Monitoring and Resilience: Maintain monitoring and reporting solutions, conduct application resiliency testing alongside QA, and proactively resolve incidents with root cause analysis.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with developers, architecture, QA, and project management teams to break tasks into actionable units, support releases, and foster seamless integration across project functions.

Essential Functions:
As the DevOps Engineer, you must be:
  • Familiar with all the technical aspects of integrated operations.
  • Knowledgeable of the various automation tools and methods which may be required for process-automation and automated testing.

As the DevOps Engineer, you will
  • Work to create, maintain, and expand upon CI/CD pipelines in order to increase the speed of product testing and deployment.
  • Strive for continuous improvement and build out continuous integration, continuous development, and continuous deployment pipelines (CI/CD).
  • Design and implement development, test, release, update, and support processes for DevOps operations.
  • Encourage and implement automated processes wherever possible.
  • Maintain and administer the existing AWS environment.
  • Provide expertise on best practices for creating and maintaining multi-environment AWS infrastructure (AWS Organization).
  • Proactively evaluate the newest AWS and cloud infrastructure services, weighing benefits against associated costs to recommend opportunities for cost efficiency, resiliency, and performance improvements.
  • Lead efforts in implementing, maintaining, and continuously improving consolidated system monitoring and reporting solutions.
  • Partner with QA to conduct application resiliency testing, gauge readiness for software releases, and support performance testing and improvement initiatives.
  • Manage incident response and perform root cause analysis to resolve issues and prevent recurrence.
  • Support initiatives for security and compliance in alignment with SOC 2 Type 2 and ISO 27001:2022 requirements.
  • Document and communicate proposed solutions, including technical requirements, resource needs, and timelines.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams - including developers, architecture, QA, and other departments - during the release process to ensure smooth, coordinated deployments.
  • Work with project management to break larger projects into smaller, actionable tasks with well-defined estimates.

Required Education and Experience
  • 4+ years of experience as a DevOps Engineer, specifically using AWS
  • Experience working in a secure environment
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or similar technical discipline
