Senior AWS / Java Software Engineer

Raleigh, North Carolina | Hybrid or Remote Government Sector Project

We are looking for a Senior AWS / Java Developer to support a public sector data modernization program. This position involves migrating legacy architecture, building cloud-native applications, and implementing enterprise data lakes on Amazon Web Services (AWS).

Core Responsibilities:

  • Design, build, and test Java-based cloud applications and backend services.

  • Migrate and refactor legacy in-house systems into secure cloud environments.

  • Build scalable data pipelines and enterprise data lakes utilizing AWS services.

  • Coordinate with product managers, business analysts, and engineering teams to define system requirements and technical strategy.

  • Conduct code reviews, enforce security protocols, and optimize software for performance and reliability.

  • Apply DevOps practices and CI/CD automation tools throughout the development lifecycle.

Technical Requirements:

  • AWS Cloud: 5+ years of hands-on experience with core AWS services (such as VPC, EC2, S3, Lambda, ECS, EKS, RDS, API Gateway, Glue Crawlers, and Athena).

  • Java Engineering: 7+ years of software development experience with strong proficiency in Java, J2EE, Spring Framework, and Hibernate.

  • Cloud Migration: 5+ years of experience refactoring and migrating legacy applications to the cloud.

  • Database Management: 5+ years of experience working with relational databases and modernizing database systems.

  • DevOps & Automation: 5+ years of experience utilizing DevOps tools and deployment automation.

  • Data Integration: 3+ years of experience building data pipelines and ETL processes for high-volume datasets.

  • Methodology: 7+ years of experience working in collaborative Agile/Scrum environments.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with business intelligence tools such as Power BI or Amazon QuickSight.

  • Active AWS certifications.

  • Background working within state or local government technical environments.
