Purpose of Position

The DevOps Engineer proactively and holistically participates in and supports architecture/engineering activities that guide the development and management of technical Engineering and Simulation solutions. These solutions enable the organization's future-state business capabilities and drive the organization's targeted business outcomes. Technologies include data center, infrastructure, cloud, mobile, AI, Internet of Things (IoT), blockchain, edge computing, and immersive experiences technologies. In addition, the DevOps Engineer creates deliverables that help develop target-state guidance (reusable standards, guidelines, individual parts, platforms, and configurations) for evolving the technical infrastructure across the engineering space to enable business strategy and deliver targeted business outcomes. Fully autonomous in performing most assignments. 

Tasks and Responsibilities
  • Core Engineering
    • Reliability & Availability: Ensure all systems meet business and customer needs for high uptime, robust performance, and consistent service delivery.
    • Infrastructure as Code (IaC): Write modular, version-controlled infrastructure configurations (e.g., CI/CD, Docker, Terraform) to build scalable, secure on prem or cloud environments.
    • Observability & Performance Management: Design, monitor, and manage application performance and service quality to proactively catch system anomalies.
    • Production Troubleshooting: Lead initial troubleshooting, identify root causes, and resolve complex issues to maintain and improve service health.
  • Modern Software Lifecycle & Process Automation
    • SDLC Optimization: Streamline the software development lifecycle by identifying developer pain points and eliminating productivity barriers.
    • Cross-Functional Automation: Partner with development, operations, QA, and security teams to automate workflows and reduce manual operations.
    • Collaborative Incident Response: Work closely with cross-functional stakeholders to analyze and troubleshoot complex production failures.
    • Technical Documentation: Prepare and present clear design, architecture, and implementation documentation to multiple stakeholders.
  • Leadership & DevOps Culture Advocacy
    • DevOps Advocacy: Promote DevSecOps principles, automated workflows, and a highly collaborative culture across the software engineering organization.
    • DevSecOps Practice: Drive daily engineering decisions using a DevSecOps mindset, integrating automated security testing into deployment pipelines.
    • Team Mentorship: Mentor and coach junior-level DevOps and infrastructure engineers to grow their technical skills and architectural understanding.
Minimum Education
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution or equivalent industry experience
Minimum Experience
  • Experience: 3-5 years of experience in Infrastructure Engineering, DevOps, or Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) roles.
  • Platforms: Hands-on experience architecting and managing production workloads in on Prem or cloud environments (AWS, GCP, or Azure).
  • Automation & IaC: Mastery of Infrastructure as Code tools (e.g., Terraform) and configuration management.
  • CI/CD Tools: Deep understanding of modern CI/CD tools (e.g., GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Jenkins) and automated deployment pipelines.
  • Containers: Experience managing containerized applications using Docker and orchestration platforms like Kubernetes.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
  • SDLC & DevOps: Deep understanding of software development life cycle methodologies (Agile, DevOps) and IT compliance standards.
  • Networking Protocols: Solid understanding of the OSI/TCP-IP models and networking protocols (IPSEC, BGP, OSPF, HSRP, QoS).
  • Security & Architecture: Developed understanding of secure network architecture, information principles, and infrastructure design.
  • CI/CD & Automation: Proven experience building automated CI/CD workflows, configuration management, and release processes.
  • Coding & Scripting: Proficiency in one or more programming languages alongside strong automation scripting skills.
  • Testing & Deployment: Practical experience with development platforms and Test-Driven Development (TDD) practices.
  • Communication & Collaboration: Excellent verbal/written communication and interpersonal skills for teamwork, facilitation, and negotiation.
  • Analysis & Troubleshooting: Strong analytical skills to investigate technical data, draw conclusions, and resolve complex issues.
