Allied Veterinary Specialists (AVS) | South Daytona, Florida

At Allied Veterinary Specialists (AVS), we believe exceptional specialty care starts with exceptional veterinary nurses.
We’re looking for an experienced Surgery Veterinary Technician to join our growing South Daytona team. This position is ideal for a technician who enjoys building relationships with clients and patients, assisting with specialty consultations and recheck appointments, providing hands-on nursing care, and supporting our surgical team with light sedation and anesthesia monitoring when needed.
You’ll work closely with our surgeons, clients, and nursing team to create a smooth, compassionate experience from the patient’s first consultation through recovery and follow-up care.
✨ What You’ll Do
As a Surgery Veterinary Technician, you’ll play an important role in keeping our Surgery service organized, efficient, and patient-focused.
Your day may include:
  • Assisting with new surgical consultations and recheck appointments
  • Obtaining thorough patient histories and reviewing current medications
  • Performing technician assessments and obtaining vital signs
  • Preparing patients and exam rooms for specialty appointments
  • Reviewing treatment plans and helping clients understand next steps
  • Assisting surgeons during examinations and minor procedures
  • Performing blood draws and IV catheter placement
  • Collecting and preparing diagnostic samples
  • Coordinating diagnostic testing and patient care
  • Providing compassionate nursing care to surgical patients
  • Monitoring patients receiving mild to moderate sedation
  • Assisting with light anesthesia monitoring for procedures as needed
  • Supporting patient recovery following sedation or minor procedures
  • Maintaining accurate medical records and treatment documentation
  • Providing clear patient hand-offs to other technicians and departments
  • Communicating with clients regarding medications, discharge instructions, and follow-up care
  • Helping maintain an organized and efficient Surgery schedule
???? Skills You’ll Use & Continue Developing
This role provides an opportunity to strengthen your skills in:
  • Specialty surgical consultations and patient intake
  • Client education and communication
  • Patient assessment and nursing care
  • IV catheter placement and blood collection
  • Medication administration
  • Sedation monitoring
  • Basic to intermediate anesthesia monitoring
  • Patient recovery
  • Pain assessment and post-operative care
  • Surgical and diagnostic workflows
  • Medical documentation
  • Collaboration with specialty and emergency teams
While anesthesia experience is valuable, this position is not primarily focused on advanced anesthesia or full-day OR monitoring. The role is centered around supporting our surgeons with consultations, rechecks, patient care, diagnostics, procedures, and overall Surgery department workflow.
???? What We’re Looking For
We’re looking for someone who brings both strong technical skills and a team-first mindset.
Ideally, you have:
  • 3+ years of veterinary technician experience preferred
  • Strong veterinary nursing and animal-handling skills
  • Experience obtaining patient histories and assisting with appointments
  • Confidence communicating with pet owners
  • Comfortable monitoring patients under sedation and light anesthesia
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Ability to manage multiple patients and appointments efficiently
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • A compassionate, professional approach to patient and client care
  • A desire to continue learning and growing within specialty veterinary medicine
Extra points if you have:
  • CVT, LVT, or RVT credentials
  • Specialty hospital experience
  • Advanced anesthesia monitoring experience
  • Experience with ezyVet and/or VetRadar

???? Current Schedule
Monday–Thursday with Periodic Friday shifts
A four-day workweek means more consistency in your schedule — and more days away from the hospital to recharge.
???? Why AVS?
We want our team members to build careers here — not simply work shifts.

At AVS, great medicine starts with great people. Our technicians are an important part of the medical team and play a hands-on role in patient assessment, anesthesia monitoring, treatment, recovery, and communication.
We believe veterinary technicians should have opportunities to use their skills, continue learning, take ownership of patient care, and grow professionally.

We’re proud to create a culture where:
  • Teamwork matters
  • Clinical excellence is valued
  • Education and growth are encouraged
  • Technicians are trusted and supported
  • Compassion extends to patients, clients, and one another
  • Exceptional nursing care is recognized as an essential part of exceptional medicine
If you’re passionate about emergency medicine, enjoy challenging cases, and want to grow alongside a team committed to doing things well, you may be exactly who we’re looking for.
✨ Benefits of Joining AVS
  • Competitive compensation based on experience
  • Shift differential opportunities
  • Continuing education and professional development
  • Career advancement opportunities
  • Leadership development opportunities
  • Supportive and collaborative team environment
  • Exposure to advanced Emergency & Specialty veterinary medicine
  • Opportunities to work alongside experienced emergency clinicians and board-certified specialists
  • The chance to grow with an expanding veterinary organization

???? Ready for What’s Next?
Bring your experience, your compassion, and your passion for exceptional patient care.
Join Allied Veterinary Specialists and become part of a team where compassion meets excellence — and where your career can continue to grow.
