Job description

                                    Accounting Manager

About the Role

Million Air Richmond is seeking an experienced, detail-oriented Accounting Manager to oversee the day-to-day accounting operations of our General Aviation business. This is a hands-on accounting position for someone who enjoys working in the books, takes ownership of the accounting process, and has the technical ability to produce accurate and timely financial statements.

The Accounting Manager will be responsible for maintaining the general ledger, managing the monthly close process, reconciling accounts, preparing financial statements, and providing management with accurate financial information to support business decisions.

The ideal candidate is a strong working bookkeeper and accountant who can manage the accounting function from transaction entry through financial reporting while also providing leadership and accountability within the accounting process.

Key Responsibilities

Accounting & Bookkeeping

  • Manage the day-to-day accounting activities for the business.
  • Maintain accurate and complete general ledger records.
  • Perform and/or oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash receipts, cash disbursements, and related accounting functions.
  • Review transactions for accuracy, proper coding, and appropriate supporting documentation.
  • Perform monthly bank, credit card, and balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Maintain schedules and supporting documentation for key balance sheet accounts.
  • Monitor accounts receivable and assist with collections as needed.
  • Work closely with operations and management to ensure financial transactions are properly recorded.

Financial Reporting & Month-End Close

  • Own the monthly, quarterly, and year-end accounting close process.
  • Prepare accurate monthly financial statements, including the income statement, balance sheet, and supporting schedules.
  • Analyze account activity and investigate variances or unusual transactions.
  • Ensure accruals, prepaid expenses, depreciation, and other month-end entries are properly recorded.
  • Maintain a timely and organized close process.
  • Provide management with financial reporting and analysis to help monitor business performance.

Management & Controls

  • Maintain effective accounting procedures and internal controls.
  • Ensure compliance with company accounting policies and applicable accounting standards.
  • Coordinate with external accountants, auditors, tax professionals, and other financial partners as needed.
  • Maintain organized accounting records and documentation.

Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

What We're Looking For

  • 5+ years of progressive accounting/bookkeeping experience, preferably with experience managing the full accounting cycle.
  • Demonstrated ability to personally perform bookkeeping and accounting functions, not simply supervise them.
  • Strong understanding of general ledger accounting and financial statement preparation.
  • Experience independently producing accurate monthly financial statements.
  • Strong month-end and year-end close experience.
  • Excellent account reconciliation and problem-solving skills.
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize competing deadlines, and take ownership of responsibilities.
  • Proficiency with accounting software and Microsoft Excel.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred; equivalent experience will be considered.
  • Experience in aviation, FBO, transportation, hospitality, automotive, or another operationally complex industry is a plus.
  • Experience with multi-department or multi-revenue-stream accounting.
  • Experience with payroll, sales/use tax, fixed assets, inventory, or fuel-related accounting is a plus.
  • CPA or other accounting certification is a plus but not required.

The Ideal Candidate

The successful candidate will be a hands-on Accounting Manager who understands the details behind the numbers. You should be comfortable working in the general ledger, making journal entries, reconciling accounts, closing the books, and preparing financial statements.

This is not a position for someone who wants to simply delegate the accounting work. We are looking for someone who can roll up their sleeves, maintain the books, produce the financials, identify issues, and provide management with a clear understanding of the company's financial position and performance.

Experience in a fast-paced, operational business environment and the ability to partner effectively with non-accounting personnel will be highly valued.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work

This is an exempt position.
