Job Summary:
Omega Solutions, Inc. is seeking a Senior Backup Engineer to support and enhance backup infrastructure platforms. The role involves managing server backup policies, troubleshooting backup performance issues, and assisting in the transition to next-gen enterprise hybrid cloud backup solutions.
Responsibilities:
• Support and enhance backup infrastructure platforms hosted in our data centers
• Manage and configure server backup policies, retentions, schedules and enable backup/restore and vaulting operations.
• Provide ongoing backup administration, maintenance and problem resolution of existing SAN / NAS storage infrastructure and related software.
• Implement robust capacity management and monitoring solution for backup infrastructure platform.
• Resolve failed backup tickets, identify repetitive patterns of backup failures and come up with a solution as a mitigation effort.
• Establish guardrails and KPI metrics on backup and recovery SLAs.
• Troubleshoot backup infrastructure performance and stability issues (if any).
• Ensure weekly offsite tape backups are shipped in a timely manner.
• Identify performance bottlenecks in the entire backup infrastructure platform and resolve them.
• Ensure backup infrastructure certificates are renewed using automation.
• Help assist cutting over from current backup solution to next-gen enterprise hybrid cloud backup platform.
• Build/support automation to streamline routine backup and restore processes.
• Perform software and hardware maintenance including upgrades and vulnerability remediation as top priority.
• Perform tech refresh and/or capacity add to existing backup platform based on projected growth.
• Help execute/run backups automation using supported CI/CD pipeline.
• Enhance and improve routine maintenance and repeatable tasks using automation code and simplify the backup infrastructure deployment/configuration at scale.
• Adhere to change and problem management practices and provide timely RCAs for storage related incidents (if any)
• Help assist moving from tapes based to cloud based backup solutions.
• Configure, provision, and troubleshoot on Veritas Net backup Master/Media Server, Commvault, Data Domain, and Cisco MDS Fabric Networking.
• Participate in evaluation of next generation backup technologies by conducting RFI, RFP, and POCs.
• Participate in agile infrastructure software development, scrum, kanban and sprint.
• Drive process adoption through documentation, brown bags, tech talks, etc.
• Be available as a technical escalation point for problem resolution.
• Assist/train peers and junior engineers in your area of expertise.
Qualifications:
Required:

• 6+ years plus experience in engineering and operational work in a global company.
• Hands-on experience in designing, implementing, optimizing, and managing global enterprise backup solutions, VTL, PTL, Deduplication, Encryption, Compression, - NDMP and Data Replication.
• Hands-on experience with cloud and on-premise enterprise backup/storage environments (i.e. EMC VMAX/Power Max, Data domain, SRDF, Snap Mirror, NetApp, Veritas Net backup, Commvault, VMware, AWS - EC2, EBS, S3, S3 Glacier.
• Deep expertise in designing and implementing HA/DR Solutions in multi-cloud environments, data protection architectures as well as data security, data at rest and data in transit encryption.
• Most Recent experience with cloud-based software development tools and methodologies (e.g. Git, CI/CD, Code Deploy, Code Pipeline, Jenkin, Build Automation and Testing, etc.)
• Experience in administrative languages (i.e. Python, PowerShell, Ruby, Go Lang, Bash, etc).
• Experience with configuration management tools (i.e. Puppet, Ansible, etc).
• Experience with Rest API and usage of native API programming.
• Experience in RedHat/CentOS/Windows and VMware technologies.
Preferred:
• Experience with Cohesity, Rubrik, Networker, Avamar, a Consumer Electronics company EMC DP Suite would be plus
• Experience with SYMCLI, NAVISECCLI, Cisco DCNM
• Experience in SAN expansion in Cisco fabrics environment.
• Background in Information Security;
• Familiarity with LDAP, DNS, DHCP, SSH, IPSEC, PKI, SSL, TLS, TACACS+ protocol.
• Experience with monitoring tools (Zabbix, Splunk, Grafana, Nagios, etc)
• Nice to have - Experience with other cloud providers (i.e. Azure, GCP, etc.).
• Two or more industry certifications
