Job description

Transform patient care and the community as an Nocturnist Acute Care Nurse Practitioner in Frederick, Maryland

We believe in bringing “better” to our local community here in Frederick—better care, better collaboration, and a deep commitment to the people we serve. We'd love to talk if you’re looking for a role that supports your professional growth and connection to a vibrant city.

We are hiring for a nocturnist APP. Our nocturnist role requires working exclusively overnight shifts. Candidates must be comfortable with a nocturnist schedule and possess the ability to deliver exceptional patient care during nighttime hours.

Local Team Collaboration:

  • We’re a welcoming, resilient team of 22 physicians and 10 APPs who work closely with other hospital staff and departments to deliver the best possible care to our patients.
  • We have diverse clinicians from various geographic, educational, and training backgrounds, all of whom possess strong clinical acumen and an unwavering commitment to exceptional patient care.
  • Within work hours, we’re a dedicated and hardworking group; outside work, we foster strong interpersonal connections by spending quality time together.
  • We have created an environment conducive to flexibility and innovation for experienced clinicians.
  • Frederick Memorial Hospital values its clinical staff by offering free parking and a comfortable lounge area for socializing with fellow hospital providers and enjoying meals. We provide full subspecialty support.
  • Our clinical performance nurse assists you in providing a high-quality patient care experience.

Qualifications:

  • Board-certified nurse practitioner.
  • Hospitalist experience is required.

Flexible Scheduling:

  • Shifts for the night position in observation are scheduled from 7 pm to 7 am.

Key Responsibilities:

  • As a nocturnist APP, you will perform admissions as well as cross coverage alongside 2 nocturnist physicians. For the observation unit, you will round, admit, and occasionally discharge.
  • The observation unit is very fast-paced, and we are looking for individuals who can handle an ever-changing environment.
  • Our hospitalist team is pivotal in the rapid response team, and the intensivist team manages codes. All team members are certified in basic life support and advanced cardiovascular life support. There are no procedural requirements.
  • We hold weekly huddles and monthly team meetings, in addition to lunch-and-learn sessions, to stay current on the latest medical developments at the hospital and with Sound.
  • We work in Meditech Expand, a web-based system with access to our internal informatics platform.
  • We are entertaining candidates looking for full-time, part-time, and PRN shifts.

Living and Working in Frederick:

  • Frederick isn’t just where we work—it’s where we live and enjoy the perfect blend of history, culture, and modern living. With its charming downtown, beautiful parks, and vibrant arts scene, Frederick offers a unique lifestyle with a strong sense of community. From local festivals and farmers' markets to scenic walking trails and historic sites, Frederick is a place where you can truly feel at home.
  • Our guiding principle is patient-first care, which means we’ve focused on the people of Frederick and nearby areas. You’ll be part of a team that’s making a real difference in the health of our neighbors.

Rewards and Benefits:

  • Compensation:
    • Nocturnist shift – $150,000 to $165,000 yearly, plus incentives. $25,000 commencement bonus offered for our nocturnist position.
  • We emphasize growth and development as a central feature of Sound practices. Teammates can expand their careers locally and within the broader medical group.
