Job description

Job Description Summary
This position is available within the University of Maryland's Division of Information Technology (DIT).
The AV Programming Specialist works within the Academic Technology & Innovation team as a senior technical leader responsible for informing design, programming, commissioning, optimizing, and supporting complex audiovisual systems that support institutional teaching and learning spaces. It will work closely with Classroom Technology staff responsible for classroom design and for deployment of technologies of AV systems in General Purpose Classrooms. The AV Programming Specialist will review requirements and assist with design of classroom AV systems, perform tests and pilots of viable technologies, troubleshoot existing AV systems to restore system functionality. Working closely with Classroom Technology, facilities, networking teams, vendors, manufacturers, and other stakeholders, the Specialist contributes to institutional AV standards, reviews construction documentation, ensures compliance with IT and AVIXA standards.
This position requires deep expertise in AV control systems (Crestron programming and architecture), audio DSP design (QSys, Biamp Tesira, Shure), wireless RF spectrum management, and AV-over-IP technologies such as Dante, AES67, NDI, and Crestron NVX, and collaborates with IT networking teams to ensure enterprise-level performance, security, and reliability for AV systems integrated with campus network infrastructure. In addition to advanced troubleshooting and optimization, the role emphasizes documentation, standards development, cross-functional leadership, and continuous innovation to enhance instructional technology environments across the institution.
We are looking for a passionate, highly creative individual who has great programming, commissioning, and troubleshooting skills. The AV Programming Specialist will work under the general supervision of the Manager, AV Systems and Classrooms Support Audio Visual Operations and will be a member of the Academic Technology & Innovation team at the Division of Information Technology.
**This position is considered essential and may be required to work at the normal work location or an alternative location during a major catastrophic event, weather emergency, or other operational emergency to help maintain the continuity of University services.**
Typical working hours will be 6am-2:30pm. May be required to work evenings, nights, weekends, or different shifts for extended periods.**
Physical Demands: Must be able to operate test equipment, machinery and AV equipment; use power tools; work at heights using ladders and scaffolding; and drive a UMD vehicle. Must be able to perform extensive standing, driving, walking, and climbing; to lift up to 50lbs.; to manipulate up to 100lbs. with assistance, to transport and stock assigned supplies and materials; to wear personal protective equipment. Must be able to bend, stoop, and climb to reach materials (must be able to climb a ladder and to work from a lift up to twenty feet in height).
Licenses/Certifications: Must have a valid driver's license.
Minimum Qualifications
Education: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
Experience: Three (3) years of audio visual programming experience.
Other: Additional work experience as defined above may be substituted on a year for year basis for up to four (4) years of the required education.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:
Knowledge of audio visual technology.
Skill in oral and written communication.
Skill in the use of Google Office Suite.
Ability to multitask and prioritize assignments.

  • Extremely well versed in classroom design methodologies

Please note that all positions within the Division of Information Technology (DIT) have an in person component with expected time in our College Park, MD location per week. Telework is not a guaranteed work arrangement.
