Job description

Summary:

The AV Field Engineerโ€™s primary responsibility shall be to adjust, test, configure and commission Audio Video & IT systems, bringing projects to completion and ensuring quality. They must also understand design, demonstrate installation and commissioning techniques. The candidate must be able to understand large audio/video systems, have a solid technical background and have a understanding of video, audio, control, data/networking systems. The Field Engineer will work closely with the Field Manager, Engineers, Installers and Project Managers to provide both general and specific recommendations on installation standards, technologies, personnel, job specifics and implementation. For all types of systems, upon completion, the Field Engineer shall provide red lined drawings and, in some cases, may act as Project Supervisor.

Responsibilities:

  • Attend project kick off meetings, providing your perspective of whatโ€™s needed to successfully commission AV systems.
  • Proactively identify areas of concern with system design, equipment integration, and end-user functionality needs.
  • Read, analyze, and notate floorplans, elevations, sections, signal drawings, mounting and pin details.
  • Communicate with the client, project manager, and design engineer, providing accurate status updates, risk assessments, delay alerts, and suggestions.
  • Create, modify, & test audio Digital Signal Processing (DSP) programs (Biamp, QSC, BSS).
  • Deploy and test control system programs (Crestron, Extron, QSC).
  • Configure, test, and verify operation of all AV system components, especially; projectors, displays, DSPs, amplifiers, speakers, control systems, video codecs, scalers, processors, transmitters & receivers, wireless mics, recording devices, touch panels, etc.
  • Troubleshoot issues with IP networking, DHCP, DNS, routing protocols, multicast, IGMP, VoIP, SIP, and videoconferencing applications.
  • Occasionally pull and terminate all types of video, audio, and control cabling with 95% accuracy.
  • Complete system commissioning reports and perform system tests to verify proper functionality.
  • Serve as installation โ€œquality control inspectorโ€ of all work performed by Alpha Video staff and contractors, ensuring safety and quality standards are met.
  • Provide effective end user training & event support for commissioned systems.
  • Analyze and resolve service call escalations.
  • Provide occasional Tier 3 technical support to Alpha Video employees and clients.
  • Research new products to remain current as technology advances.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Up to 70% travel, occasionally on a last-minute basis.
  • Occasional evening and weekend work.
  • Complete and maintain an OSHA 30 Construction certification.
  • Ability to pass a background check.
  • Ability to obtain (shortly after hire) and maintain necessary gaming licenses.
  • Maintain a valid driver's license.

Preferred:

  • Knowledge of legacy and state-of-the-art multimedia systems used in best-in-class conference centers and large venues.
  • Working knowledge for the configuration of Cisco, Zoom, Teams, Poly video platforms and hardware.
  • Wide variety of experience with AV equipment and control systems, including Extron, Crestron, Dante, Q-Sys, Biamp, displays, LED walls, processors, etc.
  • Demonstrated expertise in configuring high and low-end video projectors and displays such as Epson, Sony, Panasonic, Christie, etc.
  • Proficient understanding of LAN/WAN hardware and software for switches, hubs, routers, point-to-point data circuits via copper and fiber for audio, video and control In-depth hands-on knowledge of audio and video production tools such as cameras, switchers, monitors, live streaming systems, etc. and able to correctly set up and diagnose problems with such equipment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to supervise small teams. Sensitivity and tact in dealing with staff/partners/clients at different levels in a diverse environment.

Education/Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • A minimum of five (5) years relevant experience.
  • Bachelorโ€™s degree preferred.

Computer Skills:

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office, including Word, Outlook, and Excel.
  • AutoCAD and Bluebeam experience preferred.
  • Experience with Crestron Toolbox, and Extron Global Configurator, and Q-Sys required.

Certificates and Licenses:

  • Valid driverโ€™s license.
  • CTS, CTS-I.
  • Additional AV certification preferred.
  • Additional advanced or product specific certifications are preferred.ย 

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to lift, raise, lower, push or carry up to 50 lbs. from ground to waist, waist to overhead and from one surface to another at mid level.
  • Remaining in a stationary position, often sitting or standing for prolonged periods.
  • Ability to bend, crouch, kneel or crawl often in small or cramped spaces.
  • Ability to ascend or descend structures like ladders, scaffolding, ropes or poles that require the use of both upper and lower body to climb up to 25 feet tall.
  • Ability to work on equipment that is over individuals head and shoulders/at or below the shoulders while standing/sitting.
  • Ability to walk/navigate/stand on both even and uneven surfaces.
  • Physical dexterity to manipulate small parts including ability to grasp and pinch small objects.
