What is an AV design engineer?

AV Design Engineers are professionals who specialize in designing audio-visual (AV) systems for various environments such as conference rooms, auditoriums, classrooms, and entertainment venues. Their work involves assessing client needs, creating technical drawings and schematics, selecting equipment, and ensuring systems are integrated seamlessly. AV Design Engineers often collaborate with architects, contractors, and IT professionals to deliver effective audio and video solutions. They play a critical role in ensuring that AV systems are functional, reliable, and meet the intended purpose.

How does an AV design engineer typically collaborate with project managers and installation teams during an AV integration project?

AV Design Engineers play a central role in the coordination between project managers and installation teams. They are responsible for creating detailed system designs and documentation, which serve as the blueprint for installation. Throughout the project, they participate in meetings to clarify design intent, address technical challenges that arise during installation, and ensure that the final implementation meets client requirements and industry standards. Frequent communication and problem-solving with both management and field teams are key elements of the role.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an AV design engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as an AV Design Engineer, you need a strong background in audio-visual technology, system design, and engineering principles, typically backed by a relevant degree or industry certifications like CTS-D. Proficiency with CAD software, signal flow diagrams, DSP programming, and AV control systems such as Crestron or Extron is commonly required. Excellent problem-solving, project management, and communication skills help you collaborate effectively with clients and multidisciplinary teams. These skills are crucial for delivering reliable, innovative AV solutions that meet client needs and industry standards.

About the Role
Are you a driven sales professional with a passion for smart home technology, audio-visual systems, and residential security? We are looking for an energetic and results-oriented Sales Consultant to join our team!
Under the direction of the Sales Manager, you will be the driving force behind securing new business and cultivating lasting relationships with homeowners and clients. In this role, you will design and sell mid-to-large-scale residential integrated systems, close long-term recurring revenue contracts, and guide clients through the exciting process of upgrading their homes. If you have a hunter mentality, a love for cutting-edge tech, and a dedication to customer satisfaction, we want to hear from you!
What You’ll Do

Drive Sales & Growth: Meet and exceed sales quotas by closing deals on residential AV, smart home, and security systems, including recurring revenue contracts.
Prospect & Network: Maintain a continuous, proactive prospecting system using referrals, cold calls, phone days, and route leads to expand your territory.
Design & Present: Generate compelling client proposals, presentations, and basic engineering documents tailored to each homeowner's unique needs.
Guide the Customer: Meet with clients at every stage of the sales process to close deals, answer questions, and provide technical assistance regarding our product and service offerings.
Ensure Quality: Perform on-site quality control inspections of work-in-progress (after rough-in and trim-out) to ensure our high standards are met.
Manage Accounts: Oversee customer accounts, ensuring a seamless transition from the initial sale to installation and beyond.
Stay Sharp & Organized: Maintain a working knowledge of the latest AV and security industry trends. Keep our CRM tools updated and submit weekly progress, expense, and mileage reports.

What We’re Looking For

Experience: 1-3 years of experience in outside sales, with a strong emphasis on new account acquisition. Previous experience in AV, technology, equipment, or advertising sales is highly preferred.
Technical Aptitude: A strong desire to learn and understand residential AV, home automation, and security technologies.
Sales DNA: Excellent sales and closing skills, a great attitude, and strong character.
Drive: A demonstrated willingness to work hard, showing perseverance, determination, and self-discipline.

What We Offer

Competitive Compensation: Base salary plus an attractive commission and/or bonus structure (commensurate with experience).
Benefits: Comprehensive health care plan and Paid Time Off (PTO).
Reimbursement: Out-of-pocket expenses (mileage, meals, etc.) reimbursed within reason, with other expenses approved on a case-by-case basis.
