Job description

Interstate Electronics Company, a leading audiovisual / communications systems integrator since 1964, seeks an AV Systems Programmer for its Chicago location.
Interstate Electronics Company designs, installs and supports a wide range of technology solutions including: audio/visual systems, professional audio systems, control systems, nurse call systems, healthcare communications systems, educational communications systems, video surveillance systems, paging systems, networking infrastructure and integrated security systems.
Position Overview: Interstate Electronics seeks a skilled and experienced AV Systems Designer and Programmer to join our dynamic team. As a mid-level professional, you will be responsible for designing, programming, configuring, and maintaining advanced AV control systems and low-voltage communication systems. This role requires a strong background in AV system design, DSP configuration, and programming. AutoCAD, Revit, and Microsoft Office Suite, as well as manufacturer-specific configuration tools, will be used to configure and document the design.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Design and Program AV Control Systems: Develop and implement touchscreen control interfaces and web page interfaces for systems such as Extron, Crestron, Biamp, and QSC Q-SYS.
  • Configure DSP Systems: Program and configure DSP systems from manufacturers like Biamp, QSC Q-SYS, and Harman BSS.
  • System Design and Documentation: Assist in the creation and completion of complex A/V and low-voltage communication systems designs and documentation using AutoCAD and Revit.
  • Low-Voltage Communication Systems: Work on designs for various low-voltage communication and control systems, including school intercom systems, nurse call systems, overhead paging systems, mass notification systems, and structured cabling inside the plant.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with Project Managers, Project Engineers, and CAD Operators to ensure seamless integration and implementation of AV systems.
  • Reporting: Report to the Vice President of Engineering.

Qualifications:
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in AV control system programming and DSP configuration.
  • Certifications: Industry training and certifications such as AVIXA CTS-D, BICSI RCDD are highly desired.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, and Microsoft Office Suite; strong knowledge of A/V systems and low-voltage communication systems.
  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
