Autonomous Systems Internship information

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an autonomous systems intern?

To thrive as an Autonomous Systems Intern, you generally need a solid background in computer science, robotics, or engineering, with coursework or experience in algorithms, control systems, and machine learning. Familiarity with programming languages such as Python or C++, simulation tools like ROS (Robot Operating System), and version control systems (e.g., Git) is typically expected. Strong problem-solving abilities, teamwork, and effective communication are important soft skills for collaborating on complex technical projects. These skills and qualifications enable interns to contribute meaningfully to the development and testing of autonomous technologies in a fast-evolving field.

What is an autonomous systems internship?

An Autonomous Systems Internship is a temporary position for students or recent graduates to gain hands-on experience working with technologies such as robotics, self-driving vehicles, drones, and artificial intelligence. Interns typically assist in designing, developing, and testing autonomous systems under the guidance of experienced engineers or researchers. These internships provide exposure to real-world applications of autonomous technology and often require knowledge of programming, machine learning, or control systems. The goal is to help interns build practical skills, expand their professional network, and prepare for a career in the field of autonomous systems.

What is the difference between Autonomous Systems Internship vs Robotics Engineering Internship?

AspectAutonomous Systems InternshipRobotics Engineering Internship
Required CredentialsRelevant coursework, technical skills in AI, machine learning, and systems integrationEngineering background, robotics courses, programming skills in C++, Python
Work EnvironmentResearch labs, tech companies, autonomous vehicle firmsManufacturing plants, research labs, robotics companies

Autonomous Systems Internships focus on developing and testing autonomous technologies like self-driving cars, requiring skills in AI and systems integration. Robotics Engineering Internships emphasize designing and building robotic systems, often involving mechanical and electrical engineering. Both roles are industry-relevant and share overlapping skills but differ in their specific focus areas and work environments.

What types of projects do interns typically work on during an autonomous systems internship?

During an Autonomous Systems Internship, interns often participate in hands-on projects involving robotics, machine learning, sensor integration, or simulation environments. They may assist with developing algorithms for navigation, collaborating on system testing, or supporting data analysis for autonomous vehicles or drones. Interns usually work closely with multidisciplinary teams, gaining exposure to both hardware and software aspects of autonomous systems. This collaborative environment helps interns build practical skills and network with experienced professionals in the field.

Brex

Job description

Why join us
Brex is the intelligent finance platform that enables companies to spend smarter and move faster in more than 200 markets. By combining global corporate cards and banking with intuitive spend management, bill pay, and travel software, Brex enables founders and finance teams to accelerate operations, gain real-time visibility, and control spend effortlessly. Brex's AI-native automation and world-class service eliminate manual expense and accounting tasks for customers so they can focus on what matters most. Tens of thousands of the world's best companies run on Brex, including DoorDash, Coinbase, Robinhood, Zoom, Plaid, Reddit, and SeatGeek.
Working at Brex allows you to push your limits, challenge the status quo, and collaborate with some of the brightest minds in the industry. We're committed to building a diverse team and inclusive culture and believe your potential should only be limited by how big you can dream. We make this a reality by empowering you with the tools, resources, and support you need to grow your career.
Systems at Brex
Systems is the connective tissue that powers Brex's growth and operational scale. We operate at the intersection of product, operations, finance, data, engineering, and GTM - solving the company's most complex cross-functional challenges and turning strategy into execution.
From driving AI transformation across Operations and GTM to building scalable systems, workflows, and decision infrastructure, Systems helps Brex operate smarter, faster, and with greater leverage. We are redefining how modern operational organizations work by combining business context, systems thinking, and AI-native execution.
If you're excited by high-impact problems, hands-on building, and shaping how a modern fintech GTM org operates, Systems is where you belong.
What You'll Do
You'll own the tools, workflows, and automations that our GTM teams - Sales, Sales Development, Customer Success, and Revenue Operations - rely on every day. This is a hands-on, builder-focusedrole: you'll work directly with GTM leaders and reps to understand where time and efficiency are being lost, then design and ship solutions that close the gap.
You'll help answer questions like:
  • Where are our GTM teams spending time on manual or repetitive work that tooling and automation can eliminate?
  • How do we integrate AI directly into the tools our sellers and CS teams use daily, rather than bolting it on?
  • What does the data tell us about where to invest next, and how do we make that case to leadership?
  • Where does our GTM data model break down across systems (Salesforce, Snowflake, reverse-ETL pipelines), and what's the right approach to fix it so downstream teams don't build around it?

This role is a great fit for someone who wants to move quickly, work independently on real business problems, and grow their ability to operates with a high degree of autonomy. You'll be trusted to scope, build, test, and ship with minimal oversight, escalating only for cross-team dependencies or architectural tradeoffs.
Where You'll Work
This role will be based in our Salt Lake City office. We are a hybrid environment that combines the energy and connections of being in the office with the benefits and flexibility of working from home. We currently require a minimum of three coordinated days in the office per week: Monday, Wednesday and Thursday. As a perk, we also have up to four weeks per year of fully remote work!
Responsibilities
  • Build and maintain tooling, integrations, and automations that increase efficiency and productivity for GTM teams.
  • Partner directly with Sales, SDR, CS, and RevOps stakeholders to identify workflow bottlenecks and translate them into clear, scoped technical solutions.
  • Work within and across our GTM tech stack (e.g., Salesforce, Nooks, Outreach, Gong, Vitally, Sierra, or equivalents) to build and improve tooling and integrations.
  • Analyze GTM data to surface insights, quantify impact, and make data-backed recommendations to leadership on where to prioritize systems investment.
  • Integrate AI and LLM-based capabilities into existing tools and workflows to drive automation and leverage, with guidance from senior team members on more complex builds.
  • Independently own and deliver moderately scoped projects end-to-end, from problem framing through launch and iteration.
  • Manage relationships with multiple GTM stakeholders, with support from senior ICs and managers on prioritization and tradeoffs.
  • Contribute to team quality bar by writing clean, reviewed code and following strong technical hygiene.
  • Mentor junior ICs and interns as they ramp up on systems and tooling work.
Requirements
  • 2-4 years of experience in Systems, BizOps, TechOps, Sales/RevOps engineering, or a related technical operations role.
  • Familiarity with GTM tooling such as Salesforce (or an equivalent CRM), Nooks, Outreach, Gong, Vitally, Sierra, or comparable platforms or a demonstrated ability to learn new tools quickly.
  • Experience leading tools end-to-end- from evaluation and vendor selection through implementation, change management, and training coordination.
  • Working proficiency in JavaScript, Python, SQL, and APIs, with the ability to build and ship internal tools independently.
  • Comfort working with data to inform decisions: pulling, analyzing, and presenting data-backed recommendations to non-technical stakeholders and leadership.
  • Experience or genuine curiosity around embedding AI/LLM capabilities into tooling and workflows.
  • Strong ownership mentality: able to take a loosely defined business problem, scope it, and drive it to a shipped solution.
  • Ability to manage multiple stakeholder relationships and balance competing priorities, with support from more senior team members.
  • Excitement for building GTM-facing tools in a fast-paced, high-growth environment.
Compensation
The expected salary range for this role is $126,000 - $145,000. However, the starting base pay will depend on a number of factors, including the candidate's location, skills, experience, market demands, and internal pay parity. Depending on the position offered, equity and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package.
