Design Engineer
Location: Troy, OH
Onsite position
Annual salary: $64-70k
Position Summary

We are seeking a Design Engineer to support the development of vehicle chassis components from initial concept through successful launch into regular production. The Design Engineer has two core areas of responsibility: technical design and engineering and project coordination.

This position applies knowledge of mechanical engineering, CAD, prototyping, performance validation, and manufacturing to develop products that meet customer and company requirements. The Design Engineer works closely with customers, suppliers, manufacturing, sales, quality, and other internal teams to ensure designs are technically sound, manufacturable, and successfully launched into production.

The ideal candidate is a strong technical problem solver who can effectively manage multiple priorities, communicate with diverse stakeholders, and take ownership of projects from concept through production.

Essential Job Functions
  • Responsible for the design and development of vehicle chassis components, including the creation of 2D and 3D CAD data that fulfills customer and company requirements.
  • Apply knowledge of mechanical engineering, product design, and manufacturing to creatively solve design and engineering problems.
  • Develop components from the concept stage through prototype, performance validation, design freeze, and the start of regular production.
  • Organize and lead productive meetings with associates within and outside the company.
  • Act as a liaison between customer and company internal groups for project coordination.
  • Communicate with supplier on requirements and expectations for quality.
  • Creates and maintains project related documents for internal and external use, including schedule, presentation, and technical documents.
  • Design parts for manufacturability using an understanding of the processes, equipment and requirements of plant side for the mass production of awarded business.
  • Product launch support after design freeze through regular production to help ensure successful close of project.
  • Planning of work priorities and effectively schedule work which achieves project milestones.
  • Understand prototype processes and requirements and reflect the best practice in Design.
  • Work with Sales team in the development process to support quote activities and gain new business.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
  • 0 - 3 years of related Engineering experience.
  • Understanding of mechanical engineering principles and manufacturing processes.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and customer requirements.
  • Strong analytical and creative problem-solving skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to organize and lead meetings and effectively communicate with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strong project coordination, organizational, and time-management skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities while meeting established milestones and deadlines.
  • Ability to work effectively in a cross-functional, team-oriented environment.
