Job Summary:

The Field Service Technician - Travel is responsible for supporting the installation, repair, optimization, and integration of Vontas mobile solutions throughout North America. This role will travel to work closely with Vontas client agencies, 3rd party hardware vendors, vehicle OEMs, and other industry partners to meet on-vehicle operational requirements for Vontas mobile solutions customers.
The Field Service Technician - Travel will utilize and integrate best-practice methodology and workmanship processes to ensure optimum equipment operation and customer satisfaction.
This role reports to Associate Manager, Field Service.

Job Description:

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Travel to client locations to support system configuration, testing and system integration documentation. This role requires 100% Travel and will vary by project assignments.
  • Ensure vehicle functionality and hardware installations are correct.
  • Complete inspections, adjustments, and repairs of installed hardware to meet design specifications and industry standards.
  • Perform operational testing and documentation/data capture to optimize hardware and system for service use.
  • Contact internal and external customers via phone, email, and/or on-site visits.
  • Provide support for internal documentation, testing, production, and development efforts.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve software, hardware, and configuration issues with 1st and 2nd level support engineers.
  • Perform operational maintenance, system and technical product troubleshooting, repairs, and system testing.
  • Provide systems training and guidance to internal and external customers.
  • Complete required documentation and report on system status through daily/weekly activity logs and reports.
  • Routinely inform internal teams, project management and client representatives on project progress, next steps and changes.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Willingness and ability to travel frequently and adjust to varying project assignments and schedules (including non-scheduled emergency calls outside of assigned working hours).
  • Expertise in configuring and integrating systems.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for interacting with internal and external customers.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with internal teams, project managers, and external stakeholders to achieve project goals.
  • Ability to analyze and understand mechanical drawings and perform measurements/calculations.
  • Ability to adjust to evolving project requirements, new technologies and changing environments.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and related software(s).

Education and Experience:

  • Minimum of 1 years of demonstrated experience in installation, maintenance, diagnosis, and repair of automotive in vehicle electronics, mobile camera, or commercial mobile radio installations.
  • 1-2 years experience in the following areas:
    • Testing, analysis and troubleshooting of complex electronic systems and ability to use analyzers, meters, other test equipment.
    • Experience following system configuration and system integration documentation.
    • Experience with customer facing consultation and communications.
    • Experience resolving software, hardware, and configuration issues.
  • Post-secondary education in the areas of Business Administration, Vehicle Repair, Electrical Systems, Computer Science, Engineering, or related field preferred.
  • Understanding of the North American Transit Industry and Agencies is preferred.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to travel up to 100% of the time (including domestic and international), sometimes for extended periods, which may involve sitting during transit and walking at various locations.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at a time.
  • Must be able to handle high utilization of hand and wrist dexterity.
