This is an adjunct faculty pool for teaching in the Diesel Technology department. The pool will remain open until June 2027 unless positions are no longer needed. Applications will be reviewed and candidates will be contacted and interviewed as positions become available.
Instructor is responsible for the part-time instruction in various areas of the Diesel program, including but not limited to: brakes, electrical, engine diagnosis and repair, powertrains, off-road diesel, small engine repair, suspension and steering and hydraulics. Instructor is required to create a course syllabus, instruct students in the subject matter in accordance with the syllabus, maintain attendance records, assess student progress and evaluate course work for a letter grade. Instructor will maintain college standards in all aspects of professionalism, record keeping and instruction within the team atmosphere of the Diesel department of Rogue Community College.
Supervision Received
The dean, in consultation with the department chair, is responsible for carrying out the evaluation of instructors under procedures developed by the vice president. The dean confers with the department chair in decisions regarding instructor workload, professional growth, retention, and department staffing levels.
Examples of Duties - Essential Functions
  1. Instructs students in a classroom, lab, learning center, or other setting as appropriate.
  2. Prepares, distributes and utilizes instructional support materials, including course syllabi, supplementary materials, instructional media, and other devices as appropriate.
  3. Develops, communicates, and utilizes a student assessment process and instruments which are related to the stated objectives of the course.
  4. Participates as a team member in department meetings and planning activities.
  5. Participates in curriculum planning and development as needed.
  6. Represents the program and the college to the community, businesses, public agencies, and other organizations in a professional manner.
  7. Communicate effectively with a wide variety of students and college staff.
  8. Advise students on matters of program goals and course requirements
  9. Performs other duties as assigned.

Screening Criteria
Education: Recent field experience and training is required. An Associate of Applied Technology degree in Automotive and/or Diesel Technology is preferred.
Only degrees received from an accredited institution will be accepted: accreditation must be recognized by the office of degree authorization, US Department of Education, as required by ORS 348.609. Final candidate will be required to provide official transcripts for required degree.
Experience: Current diesel industry experience, with diagnosis and repair of all aspects of truck and heavy equipment repair and off-road diesel repair, is required. Thorough knowledge of "High-Tech" electronics systems is desirable. Teaching experience is preferred.
Knowledge of: Diesel equipment industry, including truck/heavy equipment industry; truck systems which include engine repair, manual and automatic transmissions, front ends, brakes, hydraulics, heating and air conditioning, and electrical systems, off-road diesel, heavy equipment. Proficient in using various software such as electronic service manuals, engine diagnosis/wave forms; computer applications for communication and learning, including, but not limited to, word processing, the Internet, spreadsheets and database management; curriculum development. Knowledge of the community colleges' mission, role in higher education, and student population; and sensitivity to a diverse student body and its needs.
Ability to: Direct and assist students in labs with the diagnosis and repair of truck/heavy equipment systems in live situations. Communicate effectively and respectfully with diverse students, staff, and community members; demonstrate experience or potential for innovation and creativity in both the classroom and related educational duties; demonstrate a commitment to professional standards and growth. Pass a criminal background check.
Licenses: Must possess a valid Oregon Driver License and provide proof of an acceptable driving record. Factory and brand specific certifications are highly desirable.

Manual dexterity and coordination are typically required over 50% of the work-day and at times 100% while operating automotive tools and equipment, computers, keyboards, 10-key, telephones, and other standard office equipment. While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, reach, bend, kneel, stoop, twist, crouch, climb, balance, see, talk, hear, and manipulate objects. The position requires mobility including the ability to lift and/or move materials up to 25 lbs. frequently and 25-60 lbs. occasionally. This position requires both verbal and written communication abilities.

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is typically in an automotive repair/maintenance shop environment. The employee is frequently exposed to noise, dust, hazardous gases and vapors, and other hazards. The noise level in the work environment is typical of an automotive maintenance shop. Where appropriate, personal protective equipment will be issued and the employee will be trained in its proper application and use.
