Job description

Automotive Technician - Honda of Downtown Chicago

Honda of Downtown Chicago, part of the Murgado Automotive Group, is hiring a full-time Automotive Technician for our busy and growing service department in Libertyville, IL. We are busy—and getting busier. This is an on-site opportunity for experienced technicians who want steady work, high earning potential, and the ability to get paid for what they produce.

You will diagnose, repair, and maintain customer vehicles while working with modern diagnostic tools, dealership repair procedures, and a supportive service team. Honda experience and ASE certifications are preferred, but we welcome qualified automotive technicians with strong mechanical and electrical diagnostic skills.

Busy Shop. High Earning Potential. No Shortage of Work. Our top technicians earn $70,000 to $150,000+ per year, and we are looking for experienced technicians who want to turn hours and consistently flag strong hours in a shop that stays full.

Our advisors know how to sell work, our dispatch process is built to support production, and our technicians have the opportunity to be rewarded for strong performance.

If you are tired of:

  • Sitting around waiting for work.
  • Empty bays.
  • Poor dispatching.
  • Advisors who cannot sell.
  • A shop where hard work is not rewarded.

It is time for a change.

Benefits

  • Top technicians earn $70,000 to $150,000+ per year.
  • Busy shop with no shortage of work.
  • Competitive flat-rate tier pay structure with performance-based earning opportunities.
  • Opportunity to consistently flag strong hours.
  • Possible sign-on bonus for qualified candidates.
  • Health, dental, and vision insurance.
  • Retirement plan options.
  • Ongoing training and career development.
  • Supportive dealership team environment.
  • Growth opportunities within the Murgado Automotive Group.

A New Direction

We have built a strong leadership team, improved our processes, invested in our people, and created an environment where technicians can succeed.

Our focus is simple:

  • Keep the shop loaded with work.
  • Dispatch fairly.
  • Support our technicians.
  • Reward performance.

If you produce, you will make money.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine maintenance, including oil changes, tire rotations, brake inspections, and manufacturer-recommended services.
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, engine, transmission, suspension, brake, HVAC, and drivability concerns.
  • Use diagnostic equipment, technical manuals, and repair procedures to troubleshoot vehicle issues accurately.
  • Complete repairs efficiently while meeting dealership quality and safety standards.
  • Inspect vehicles, document findings, and recommend appropriate repairs or maintenance.
  • Communicate clearly with service advisors about diagnoses, repair timelines, and recommended services.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
  • Follow dealership policies, manufacturer guidelines, and safety procedures.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • 3–4+ years of experience as an Automotive Technician in a dealership or automotive repair facility preferred.
  • Automotive technical training program, apprenticeship, or equivalent hands-on experience preferred.
  • Strong diagnostic, troubleshooting, mechanical, and electrical repair skills.
  • Ability to use diagnostic equipment, hand tools, and service information systems.
  • ASE certification or Honda manufacturer certification is a plus.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
  • Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record required.
