OVERVIEW

Merrick & Company is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to support the mechanical design of projects as part of a multi-disciplinary team. This Mechanical Engineer will be based in our Ellicott City, MD, Richmond, VA, or Newport News, VA offices.ย 

Qualified candidates will have a desire for professional growth, a well-defined understanding of design and construction document processes, and adaptability for short term and long-term projects in an environment that requires a blend of creativity and high technical skills. Successful candidates will be self-starting, motivated, innovative, articulate, self-disciplined, and confident in a demanding, exciting, and fast-paced environment.ย  This engineer will be responsible for all phases of mechanical design production for a variety of Energy, Manufacturing & Bioprocessing projects ranging from conceptual engineering through detailed design and construction administration.


WHAT YOU'LL DO
  • Participate with the mechanical design team and the multi-disciplinary project team, to execute the conceptual and detailed mechanical design of projects for complex manufacturing processes and facilities in markets such as food & beverage, personal care, bioprocessing, advanced technology, specialty chemicals, automotive, heavy manufacturing, and power.ย  Projects vary substantially in scope from small retrofit of equipment in existing industrial facilities to new production units.
  • Complete detailed engineering calculations to size equipment and pipe systems, data sheets, specifications, technical reports as required, vendor coordination, and work with designers to produce detailed 3D CAD models and construction drawings such as P&IDs, equipment layouts, and piping isometrics.
  • Perform field work at customer locations, to support design, which may include travel within the United States.
  • Develop and maintain knowledge of applicable codes and standards for the design and construction of industrial processes, systems and facilities.
  • Develop and maintain skills in required software packages including AFT Fathom / Arrow, CAESAR II, Trane Trace, Bluebeam Revu.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or Similar from an ABET Accredited Institution required.
  • A minimum of four (4) yearsโ€™ related experience.
  • Passed FE Exam and working toward obtaining a Professional Engineering license.
  • Experience in aspects of mechanical project design including planning, calculations, equipment selection, schematic design, production of construction documents (drawings and specifications), and construction administration is a strong asset.
  • Experience in Industrial manufacturing design and construction knowledge.
  • Proficient in report writing including basis of design reports, specifications, field reports, etc.
  • Ability to travel.
  • Client projects for this position require U.S. Citizenship.ย 

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Demonstrated experience in as many of the following areas as possible is an asset: centrifugal pumps, pressure vessels, tanks, boilers, air compressors, instruments for measuring process parameters (pressure, flow, temperature, etc.), relief valves sizing and selection, building HVAC, industrial ventilation, process and utilities piping.
  • Experience with calculation software (CAESAR II, AFT Fathom, Trane Trace, etc.)
  • Local candidates preferred.
