Job description

About the Position Keep Lane County’s fleet—and the essential services it supports—moving. As the Senior Fleet Services Purchasing Specialist, you will oversee the parts, supplies, tools and equipment that keep Lane County vehicles and public works equipment safe, reliable and ready for service. You will coordinate purchasing, receiving, inventory, storage and distribution while managing relationships with contracted and non-contracted vendors. This senior-level position combines technical purchasing expertise, modern storeroom and inventory management, data analysis and day-to-day leadership. You will monitor financial and inventory activity, maintain specialized purchasing and maintenance records, manage stocking levels and obsolescence, resolve vendor or supply issues, and recommend improvements that support efficient fleet operations and responsible use of public funds. You will also develop recurring and specialized reports, assist with administration of the County’s fuel program, and apply purchasing policies, contractual requirements, bidding procedures, and applicable laws and regulations. The position provides ongoing lead direction to purchasing staff and supports General Services management and the Fleet Shop Supervisor with administrative and technical priorities. The successful candidate will be able to work independently while contributing to a collaborative team environment. Strong written and verbal communication skills, sound judgment, attention to detail, and a commitment to courteous customer service are essential. You must also be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with County employees, department partners, vendors and contractors. The ideal candidate will bring: Knowledge of modern storeroom, inventory and purchasing practices Experience with light-duty vehicles and familiarity with heavy-duty, construction, agricultural or Class 5–8 equipment Intermediate experience using automotive parts management software or a fleet management information system Proficiency with Microsoft 365 applications, including Outlook, Word, Excel and Teams Experience interpreting purchasing agreements, policies, procedures and regulatory requirements The ability to analyze operational data, identify trends and prepare clear reports and recommendations You understand that the right part, delivered at the right time and purchased responsibly, can determine whether critical County equipment remains in service. About the Division - General Services The General Services Division is comprised of Fleet Services and Animal Services. Fleet Services is responsible for providing a modern, well-equipped vehicle and equipment fleet that is maintained and utilized at the lowest reasonable cost while minimizing environmental impacts. Fleet and General Services Fund is associated with procurement, maintenance, operation, and replacement of fleet assets and are charged directly to the user department through rental rates. Fleet Services provide vehicles, equipment, maintenance services and fuel to County departments and several Federal, State and local partner agencies. Animal services seek to ensure public and animal health, safety, and quality of life within the community and works to bring about and to maintain an environment in which people and animals can live harmoniously. Schedule: Monday – Thursday, 6:30am – 5:00pm *This is a Lane County Local 626 represented position. Education, Experience & Special Requirements Equivalent to an associate’s degree from an accredited college in business, accounting, automotive technology or a related field. Four years of responsible purchasing and customer service experience in an automotive/heavy equipment environment. Experience as a service writer is desirable. An equivalent combination of experience and training that will demonstrate the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying.
