Job description

Amazon is seeking an experienced attorney to join Amazon's legal team as lead counsel for the development and operation of autonomous vehicles and robotics solutions for Amazon's last mile delivery operations. This role offers a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of technology and complex regulatory frameworks, supporting one of Amazon's most innovative initiatives in transforming last mile logistics.
You will provide strategic legal counsel on product development, regulatory compliance, and commercial transactions for autonomous delivery vehicles and robotics systems. Working closely with engineering, operations, and business teams, you will navigate novel legal issues in federal and state vehicle regulations, product safety, and AI regulation, as well as data privacy, intellectual property, and technology licensing

This position requires someone who thrives in ambiguous environments and can provide proactive, practical, business-oriented legal guidance on emerging technologies.
Key job responsibilities
- Serve as primary legal counsel for autonomous vehicle and robotics initiatives supporting Amazon's last mile delivery operations
- Advise on federal and state regulatory compliance for autonomous vehicles, including NHTSA regulations, DOT requirements, and state-specific autonomous vehicle and personal robot laws
- Provide product counseling on autonomous vehicle systems, robotics technologies, and related hardware/software development
- Draft, review, and negotiate complex commercial agreements including technology licensing, development partnerships, and vendor contracts
- Partner with cross-functional teams including engineering, operations, product management, and public policy on strategic initiatives
- Develop scalable legal processes and frameworks to support rapid innovation and deployment across multiple jurisdictions
- Manage relationships with outside counsel on specialized regulatory matters and litigation
- Advise on AI, data privacy, cybersecurity, and intellectual property issues related to autonomous systems
- Support risk assessment and mitigation strategies for novel technology deployments
- Collaborate with public policy teams on regulatory engagement and advocacy efforts
A day in the life
You will work on some of the most challenging and novel legal issues in the autonomous vehicle and robotics space. Your day might include advising engineers on regulatory requirements for a new vehicle feature, negotiating a partnership agreement with an automotive technology provider, analyzing new state legislation on autonomous vehicles, or developing compliance frameworks for multi-state deployments. You will have direct impact on bringing innovative delivery solutions to customers while ensuring legal and regulatory compliance
