GENERAL FUNCTION

The Automation Technician is a technical expert responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, and optimizing advanced manufacturing automation systems in a high-volume distribution and production environment.This role requires extensive experience in industrial electrical systems, PLCs, robotics, motion controls, sensors, and automated material.The Automation Technician serves as the technical resource for complex equipment issues and is expected to diagnose and resolve electrical, mechanical, and controls-related problems.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead troubleshooting and repair of industrial electrical systems up to 480V, including motors, drives, transformers, control panels, and power distribution systems.
  • Diagnose and repair PLC-controlled equipment using Allen-Bradley, Siemens, and other industrial control platforms.
  • Troubleshoot servo systems, variable frequency drives (VFDs), HMIs, sensors, encoders, and networked control systems.
  • Interpret electrical schematics, ladder logic, P&IDs, and mechanical drawings
  • Perform preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance on robotic sortation systems, AMRs, SureSort equipment, conveyors,and automated packaging systems.
  • Optimize equipment performance to improve uptime, throughput, and overall equipment effectiveness (OEE).
  • Lead root cause analysis and implement permanent corrective actions for recurring failures.
  • Support engineering projects, installations, and system upgrades.
  • Recommend design and process improvements based on equipment performance data.
  • Mentor and train technicians on troubleshooting techniques, safety standards, and best practices.
  • Coordinate with Engineering, Operations, and vendors to resolve complex issues.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety standards.
  • Support after-hours and weekend 

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • Associate degree in Electrical Technology, Mechatronics, Industrial Automation, or related technical field
  • Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in industrial maintenance with a strong focus on manufacturing automation.
  • Experience with root cause analysis and reliability improvement initiatives.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and technical manuals.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering Technology, Mechatronics, or related field.
  • Experience with AMRs, SureSort systems, and automated distribution equipment.
