Automation Simulation Engineer information

What are Automation Simulation Engineers?

Automation Simulation Engineers are professionals who design, develop, and test virtual models of automated systems, such as robotics, manufacturing lines, or industrial processes. They use simulation software to replicate real-world operations, helping companies optimize performance, identify issues, and reduce costs before actual implementation. Their work is crucial in industries like automotive, aerospace, and manufacturing, where efficiency and precision are vital. By simulating automation systems, they enable organizations to make informed decisions and improve overall productivity.

What is the difference between Automation Simulation Engineer vs Automation Test Engineer?

AspectAutomation Simulation EngineerAutomation Test Engineer
Primary FocusDeveloping and validating simulation models for automation systemsDesigning and executing automated tests for software and hardware
Required SkillsSimulation software, control systems, programming (e.g., Python, MATLAB)Testing frameworks, scripting, defect tracking
Work EnvironmentEngineering labs, R&D departments, manufacturing settingsSoftware development teams, QA departments, manufacturing
Industry UsageManufacturing, robotics, industrial automationSoftware development, electronics, automation industries

While both roles involve automation, the Automation Simulation Engineer focuses on creating virtual models to test automation systems, whereas the Automation Test Engineer concentrates on executing automated tests to ensure software and hardware quality. Both roles require technical skills and are vital in automation industries, but their core responsibilities differ significantly.

How does an Automation Simulation Engineer typically collaborate with cross-functional teams during project development?

Automation Simulation Engineers frequently work alongside controls engineers, mechanical designers, and project managers to ensure simulation models accurately reflect real-world system behaviors. Collaboration often involves participating in design reviews, sharing simulation results, and iterating on model parameters based on feedback from different departments. Effective communication and teamwork are crucial, as simulation insights guide design choices, troubleshoot potential issues, and optimize automation processes before physical implementation. This cross-disciplinary approach ensures smoother project execution and greater system reliability.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Automation Simulation Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Automation Simulation Engineer, you need a solid background in engineering principles, control systems, and process automation, usually supported by a degree in electrical, mechanical, or automation engineering. Proficiency with simulation software (such as Siemens Tecnomatix, Rockwell Arena, or MATLAB/Simulink), programming languages, and PLC systems is crucial, and certifications in automation or simulation tools are often valued. Strong analytical thinking, attention to detail, and effective communication skills enable you to interpret complex data and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams. These skills are essential to ensure accurate modeling, efficient automation solutions, and successful project outcomes in industrial environments.

Job description

Satellite Communications Network Engineer

The Opportunity:

A well-designed network is critical to move data and enable organizations to achieve their missions, but how can an organization make sure their network will fit their evolving needs? Crafting the right network, with the right equipment and software, requires a combination of technical skill and careful planning. That's why we need a network engineer like you who knows how to develop the exact network the DoD needs.

Booz Allen is looking for a Network Engineer to lead the creation and management of a lab automation solution for a SATCOM lab. As the automation lead, you will help plan, implement, test, and maintain automation hardware and software to support test and process automation. You'll use your skills in lab automation, network design, architecture, Layer 2/3 technologies, and system interoperability to improve reliability, availability, and performance across missionfocused environments. You will also contribute to engineering efforts, including implementation planning, technical reviews, test activities, and upgrades supporting enterprisewide modernization.

You'll apply your knowledge in routing and switching, integration of encryption gear, network design and architecture, system interoperability, IP engineering, network transport layers, gateway protocol, and virtual routing and forwarding as you join our team of problem-solvers to help establish automation practices and procedures in a DoD lab environment.

Advance your career with us as we help the DoD field and sustain Satellite Communications (SATCOM) capabilities and solutions to users of worldwide networks.

Join us. The world can't wait.

You Have:

  • 2+ years of experience working with Python and its applicability to scripting, automation, data management and analysis, or visualization

  • 2+ years of experience developing and managing lab automation solutions for testing, data management, and data analysis, including recommending and implementing automation solutions

  • 2+ years of experience developing repeatable test workflows

  • 2+ years of experience with network configuration, troubleshooting, or engineering support

  • Knowledge of engineering implementation planning, sustainment engineering, or technical reviews

  • Knowledge of network and switching technologies and Layer 2/3 network protocols

  • Knowledge of network design and architecture, OSI model concepts, transport layers, and system interoperability

  • Knowledge of network security technologies and firewall implementations

  • Secret clearance

  • HS diploma or GED

Nice If You Have:

  • 2+ years of experience conducting network health assessments or supporting modernization efforts

  • 2+ years of experience with automation of network diagraming and writing and generating batch files

  • 2+ years of experience generating mission packages through a satellite simulator

  • 2+ years of experience with network modeling and simulation

  • Knowledge of gateway protocols, virtual routing and forwarding, or optical networking

  • Knowledge of missionaligned enterprise networking standards and emerging technologies

  • Ability to identify improvements for network resiliency, capacity, or security

  • Top Secret clearance

  • Bachelor's degree in an Engineering, IT, or Cyber field

  • CCNA, CCNP, or Security+ certification

Clearance:

Applicants selected will be subject to a security investigation and may need to meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information; Secret clearance is required.
