Summary

We are recruiting for an Automation Specialist - Technical Lead who will be responsible for leading the automation scope during Front End Engineering and Design (FEED), with a large focus on Process and Safety Systems, Industrial Networking and Cybersecurity, and Born Digital Data Management.  This role challenges the incumbent to deliver a holistic OnePlant Automation Solution, from sensor to cloud, for large industrial facilities across a broad set of industries, ensuring our Customers' goals and objectives are met. 

Reporting to the Manager, Operations - Systems, Software & Solutions, you will lead/coordinate a team of Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to successfully deliver FEED engineering activities and associated deliverables e.g. Automation Design Basis, BPCS/SIS Data Requirement Specification, and Data Management Specifications.

Working directly with customers, EPCs, OEMs and other Spartan SMEs, the successful candidate will lead multiple projects simultaneously, coordinating with local and remote resources.  A key focus for this role will be to ensure alignment with our customers' goals, delivering the basis for an automation solution that achieves their strategic objectives.

Role and Responsibilities
  • Focus heavily on understanding the Customer's processes and business objectives, developing complete industrial automation solutions that meet the Customer's business and technology needs.
  • Build strong Customer relationships through Spartan's Customer First practices.
  • Understand Spartan's business units, products and capabilities.
  • Leverage your extensive automation skills and experience to support our Customers through FEED, providing technical expertise to guide discussions, select technologies and solutions, and develop FEED deliverables for differentiated solutions.
  • Accountable for coordinating Spartan Subject Matter Experts (SMEs), and other internal resources, to produce engineering deliverables that satisfy our Customers' requirements.
  • Identify project risks and work with Spartan Program Managers and our Customers to develop risk register(s)/mitigation plans.
  • Support the development of quality proposals that allow for smooth transition to project execution.
  • Participate in the development and collection of technical lessons learned and best practices to apply to subsequent FEED engagements.
  • Ensure compliance with Spartan Project Excellence processes, toolkits and best practices.
  • Provide technical mentoring, coaching and support the development of other Spartans.
Qualifications and Skills
  • Degree in Engineering or similar with P.Eng. or P.L.(Eng.) designation, or diploma in Engineering with CET or RET designation.
  • 10+ years solid automation background and industry experience. 
  • Strong DeltaV control system product knowledge, including process control, APC, data communications, data historians, hardware design, control system configuration, acceptance testing, commissioning, troubleshooting, virtualization, PLC integration, etc.
  • Knowledge of third-party components and integration.
  • Experience with industrial networking, enterprise solutions, cloud connectivity, cybersecurity and the integration of these components into a complete solution.
  • Strong communication skills; exceptional verbal and written communication.
  • Extensive and exceptional customer relationship/service practices.
  • Strong leadership skills, with ability to effectively work in a team environment.
  • A learning and continuous improvement mindset.
  • Proven organization and prioritization abilities.
  • Entrepreneurial work ethic, self-starter with a desire to thrive in a fast-paced team environment.
  • Willingness to travel; travel to customer sites may be required.
