Job description

Job Title: Application Engineer
Location(s): Blue Ash, OH - Onsite
About this position:
Advantech is seeking an Application Engineer with a strong interest in PCs and industrial automation. In this role, you'll collaborate closely with customers to define and implement custom software requirements and tailored OS images for deployment on Advantech's industrial PC hardware. You'll also provide hands-on support by troubleshooting and resolving customer issues related to our PC products and peripherals such as Wi-Fi and Cellular communication. Responsibilities:
  • Provide product engineering support to product managers, sales, channel partners and customers.
  • Work with customers to create custom OS images for deployment by production.
  • Testing and diagnosis of issues related to software, hardware and hardware drivers as related to the specific OS.
  • Maintain local copy of OS images and software modules from HQ.
  • Assist in creating customer specific solutions consisting of: pre/post sale technical assessments, feasibility testing, technical response to customer bids.
  • Specific customer software testing on a variety of hardware platforms.
  • Conduct product testing while working with senior engineers and product managers from North America and Taiwan.
  • Work with multiple teams across Advantech locations to lead technical discussions and gather critical information for responses to customer inquiries.
  • Occasionally participate in trade shows to demonstrate products and support cross-functional teams
  • Occasional travel may be required, up to 5% per year.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in software engineering, computer engineering or computer science, or an associate degree with equivalent experience
  • Hardware Experience with x86 PC’s and components as well as ARM platforms.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in Application Engineering or a related technical role.
  • Firm knowledge of Windows OS required as well as Linux Debian and/or Ubuntu and imaging.
  • Knowledge of Wi-Fi and LTE technology and implementation.
  • Experience updating Bios.
  • Good communication skills through voice and email
Nice to Have:
  • Experience with Nvidia GPU API and deployment, highly desirable.
  • Experience with Android deployment in automation
  • Experience in hardware design or technical support in PC or related field
  • Ability to use a multi-meter and oscilloscope and review schematics in troubleshooting hardware problems
  • Previous customer service experience is a plus
  • Networking topology, TCP/IP, VPN experience is a plus
