Job Description Job Title - Automation Specialist Role Type: Permanent opportunity and an Onsite role Location: Toronto, ON Shift: Monday-Thursday, 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM; Friday no shift but you will be on - workshare with EI benefit Reports to: Maintenance Lead Department: Maintenance About the Employer Our client is a well-established manufacturer specializing in precision plastic components and assemblies for the automotive and industrial sectors. With a strong focus on innovation, quality, and sustainability, the company offers employees opportunities to grow and contribute to advanced manufacturing processes in a safe and collaborative environment. Position Purpose The Automation Specialist is responsible for designing, installing, maintaining, programming, and troubleshooting new and existing automated equipment throughout the facility.

This role ensures the safety, reliability, and effectiveness of automation systems while supporting continuous improvement initiatives. Core Competencies Communication Mechanical Customer Service Orientation Electrical Multi-tasking Health & Safety Awareness Key Responsibilities Automation Equipment: Set up, program, troubleshoot, and repair automated systems. Project Coordination: Work with technical supervisors, engineers, and project managers to review assigned jobs.

System Programming: Configure and program system software as required. Documentation: Provide paperwork to document programming, wiring, and work instructions. Training: Coordinate and deliver training for new automation systems.

Safety Compliance: Ensure compliance with OSHA requirements and rectify safety issues immediately. Continuous Improvement: Drive improvements in cycle time, downtime, and system reliability. Fixture Design: Design and build automated fixtures.

Deadline Management: Meet project deadlines, including working evenings or weekends if required. Complete routine paperwork and other duties as assigned. Job Specifications Three-year diploma in Electro-Mechanical Technology Minimum 5 years of maintenance/automation experience or equivalent Strong English communication and organizational skills Knowledge of lock-out procedures Ability to drive a forklift Proficiency in PLCs, pneumatics, hydraulics, low-voltage electrical/electronics Ability to read blueprints Awareness of safety policies and procedures Training & Development Opportunities OHSA - Ontario Health & Safety Act requirements WHMIS - Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System Robotics and software training Lock-Out/Tag-Out procedures General Responsibilities Comply with Occupational Health & Safety Act and WSIB Act Report incidents, accidents, and hazards promptly Use appropriate PPE and maintain housekeeping standards Participate in training, meetings, and compulsory overtime when required Follow company rules, policies, and procedures Support quality assurance and environmental compliance At Leap we are an Equal Opportunity and Affirmative Action Employer.
