Job Opportunity:
Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance (BHSI) has an exciting opportunity for a highly capable and innovation-driven Engineering Manager to lead our Claims Automation & AI Technology initiatives. This is a hands-on technical & management role responsible for driving the design, development and delivery of intelligent automation solutions by leveraging platforms such as Power Automate, Azure AI Services and related cloud-native automations to enhance operational efficiency across Claims and shared business functions.
The successful candidate will lead a talented team of automation engineers, oversee the implementation of scalable AI and automation capabilities and partner closely with global business, operations and technology stakeholders to identify meaningful opportunities that drive productivity, reduce manual work and modernize processes. This is an impactful role that helps shape BHSI's Automation and AI strategy while accelerating our digital transformation.
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Ensure delivery of well-architected, maintainable and secure automation workflows that comply with enterprise standards.
  • Collaborate with infrastructure, security and architecture teams to ensure enterprise governance, scalability and performance alignment.
  • Oversee the delivery of scalable, intelligent Claims automation solutions that leverage advanced automation techniques and AI-enabled capabilities like Azure AI Services (Cognitive Services, Form Recognizer, Document Intelligence, etc.) to improve efficiency and outcomes and integration with enterprise systems.
  • Work closely with Claims business and operations leaders to understand pain points, assess automation feasibility and prioritize high-value initiatives.
  • Translate business needs into technical designs and actionable engineering work.
  • Provide clear, proactive communication to stakeholders regarding progress, risks and benefits of automation programs.
  • Lead, mentor, and grow a high-performing team of automation engineers focused on scalable workflow automation and AI-driven solutions.
  • Foster a culture of innovation, experimentation, quality engineering and continuous learning.
  • Champion engineering excellence through development standards, code reviews, automation best practices and reusable component libraries.

Qualifications, Skills, and Experience:
  • 10+ years of hands-on experience driving end-to-end delivery of workflow automation solutions, including solution design, implementation oversight, and adoption of standard automation patterns.

  • Strong experience with Azure AI Services including Azure OpenAI, Cognitive Services, Document Intelligence, LLM orchestration, prompt engineering and responsible AI practices.
  • Proficiency with Azure cloud services such as Azure Functions, Logic Apps, API Management, Service Bus and identity/role management.
  • Experience integrating automations with enterprise systems (APIs, SaaS platforms, legacy systems).
  • 3+ years of experience leading engineering teams, including mentoring, performance management and technical coaching.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to evaluate complex workflows and propose automated, AI-enhanced solutions.
  • Experience with Agile delivery models, backlog management and iterative value delivery.
  • Excellent communication skills, capable of translating business needs into technical outcomes.
  • Curious, adaptable and eager to explore cutting-edge tools and engineering approaches.

The base salary range for this position in Boston is $150,000 to $170,000, along with annual bonus eligibility. Total compensation for a candidate is determined by their relevant skills, location, and experience.
