We empower a diverse range of creators to imagine and develop culturally significant content, while building an organization that thrives on creative ideas, operational expertise and strategic thinking.JOB DESCRIPTION

ABOUT THE ROLE

We are seeking a Quality Automation Engineer to help modernize Quality Engineering across the Fox News Media Engineering organization. This role is responsible for designing and building scalable automation solutions that improve software quality, accelerate delivery, and increase release confidence across our web, mobile, connected TV (CTV), CMS, and enterprise platforms.

Working at the intersection of Quality Engineering and Software Engineering, you will develop intelligent test automation, integrate quality into CI/CD pipelines, and create automation that streamlines quality assurance, release management, and engineering workflows. You will partner closely with Engineering, Product, DevOps, and Technical Program Management to ensure quality is embedded throughout the software development lifecycle rather than treated as a final validation step.

The ideal candidate is automation-first, technically strong, AI-forward, and passionate about reducing repetitive manual effort through thoughtful engineering solutions. You are equally comfortable writing production-quality automation code, evaluating product risk, and influencing engineering teams to build more testable, reliable software.

A SNAPSHOT OF YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Define automation strategy and design, build, and maintain scalable frameworks for web, mobile, API, and end-to-end testing across Fox News Media digital products.

  • Expand automated regression coverage while continuously improving execution speed, reliability, maintainability, and overall test effectiveness.

  • Partner with Engineering to integrate automated testing, quality gates, release validation, and quality metrics into CI/CD pipelines, enabling rapid feedback and confident software delivery.

  • Develop reusable automation tools and utilities that improve testing efficiency and streamline regression testing, test data management, quality reporting, defect triage, release readiness, deployment validation, and production verification.

  • Collaborate with Product and Engineering during feature planning and development to improve requirements, acceptance criteria, application testability, observability, shift-left practices, and overall product quality.

  • Perform targeted exploratory and manual testing where human judgment provides the greatest value, particularly for new functionality, editorial workflows, user experience, accessibility, and high-risk releases.

  • Review application architecture, source code, pull requests, APIs, logs, and deployment changes to proactively identify quality risks and strengthen automation strategies.

  • Leverage AI-assisted engineering tools to accelerate automation development, test generation, defect analysis, documentation, and quality reporting.

  • Maintain test coverage and test case hygiene in test management systems, including prioritization, traceability, lifecycle status, and automation mapping.

  • Create quality metrics and dashboards that provide visibility into automation coverage, release health, defect trends, escaped defects, and overall engineering quality.

  • Support production deployments by validating critical user journeys, monitoring application health, analyzing production issues, and partnering with engineering teams to rapidly identify and resolve customer-impacting defects.

WHAT YOU WILL NEED

  • 3+ years of hands-on experience in Quality Engineering supporting modern web, mobile, API, and connected TV (CTV) applications.

  • Proven experience designing, developing, and maintaining scalable automation frameworks using Playwright, Appium, Selenium, Cypress, or comparable technologies.

  • Strong programming skills in TypeScript, JavaScript, Python, Java, or similar languages used for automation development.

  • Experience integrating automated testing into CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions, Jenkins, GitLab CI, Azure DevOps, or comparable platforms.

  • Strong understanding of modern software development practices, including source control, branching strategies, release management, and continuous integration.

  • Demonstrated expertise in risk-based testing, quality strategy, defect triage, release readiness, and production validation.

  • Ability to analyze frontend and backend code, API responses, logs, and network traffic to identify quality risks and improve test effectiveness.

  • Experience using Chrome DevTools and proxy tools such as Charles Proxy or mitmproxy for frontend debugging, network inspection, and validation.
