Job Description

AECOM is recruiting talented individuals to join our Industrial Engineering team across multiple regions and offices.  The Automation Engineer will report to an Industrial Manufacturing Principal, supporting the delivery of high-value Advanced Manufacturing and Industrial projects, contributing to both technical excellence and commercial success while developing client relationships and business development. This is a customer-facing Automation Engineer role supporting industrial automation environments. 

This role is ideal for candidates with experience as an Automation Engineer, Controls Engineer, or Electrical Engineer working with: 

  • PLCs  
  • SCADA systems  
  • Industrial automation and systems integration 
  • Robotics 
  • Drives, servos, and motion control 
  • DCS and industrial control systems 

Key Responsibilities 

Automation Engineer responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:

  • Design, develop, maintain, and troubleshoot control systems for industrial automation applications including PLCs, HMIs, drives, and networks 
  • Create and sustain automation and control system architectures 
  • Collaborate with engineers, project managers, and system owners to ensure projects are completed on-time and within budget 
  • Conduct testing and commissioning of automation systems 
  • Analyze system requirements for industrial automated manufacturing control systems 
  • Travel to client sites will be required across the US and, where necessary, internationally. 
Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree plus 6 years of hands-on experience working with motion control systems, and electrical control panel design or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education 
  • Due to the nature of the role, United States Citizenship is required

Preferred Experience: 

  • Experience designing, developing, and troubleshooting automated manufacturing equipment/systems in industrial manufacturing facilities 
  • Knowledge of PLC programming, HMI design, industrial networks and ability to read electrical schematics, P&IDs and general engineering documents/drawings 

Experience with the following:

  • PLCs  
  • SCADA systems  
  • Industrial automation and systems integration 
  • Robotics 
  • Drives, servos, and motion control 
  • DCS and industrial control systems

This role will be aligned to an AECOM office in Eastern US (flexible location-prefer Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina), with hybrid working arrangements. 

Travel to client sites will be required across the US and, where necessary, internationally.
