Job Title
PLC Controls Engineer
Overview / Summary
We are seeking a Controls Engineering Specialist with experience in automation, PLC programming, robotics, and manufacturing controls systems. The ideal candidate will support troubleshooting, system improvements, equipment programming, and controls integration within a manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement improvements to control systems and equipment using manufacturing data systems
  • Lead troubleshooting and root cause analysis for equipment performance issues
  • Coordinate resources to identify and resolve controls and automation problems
  • Support training activities for manufacturing personnel and maintenance teams
  • Assist with integration of controls into plant IT and monitoring systems
  • Troubleshoot machinery, robotics, automation, and controls-related downtime
  • Monitor equipment cycle times using plant monitoring software
  • Review and coordinate project installations
  • Reprogram equipment for engineering changes and continuous improvements
  • Maintain backups for machinery and automation programs
  • Program new automation equipment, machinery, material handling systems, and robots
  • Participate in equipment safety evaluations and risk assessments

Required Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 5+ years of related experience in controls engineering or automation
  • Experience with PLC controllers including Siemens, Rexroth, and Allen-Bradley
  • Experience with PLC/CNC systems, robotics, and computer vision technologies
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite including Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively with maintenance teams, vendors, and cross-functional teams
  • Strong interpersonal, teamwork, and communication skills

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering
  • Experience with Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma methodologies
  • Knowledge of 8D and 5Why corrective action methodologies
  • Experience with Lean tools including 5S, Kanban, Poka-yoke, and Value Stream Mapping
  • Familiarity with UL508A requirements and NFPA79 standards
  • Experience with Siemens Step 7 and TIA Portal programming and troubleshooting
  • Experience with Siemens power line and solution line configuration and programming
  • Fanuc controls troubleshooting experience
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
