Integrates data from multiple sources to produce requested or required data elements. Assists more senior Data Informatics analysts to program and maintain report forms and formats, information dashboards, data generators, canned reports and other end-user information portals or resources. Learning role with 1 to 2 years of experience.
Duty Drawback Data & Process Automation Intern
Position Summary
The Duty Drawback Data & Process Automation Intern will support the collection, validation, and organization of import and export data required for duty drawback claims. This role will initially focus on manually gathering and reconciling data from multiple systems, vendors, and internal stakeholders to establish accurate reporting processes. As the intern gains a thorough understanding of the current workflow, they will identify opportunities to streamline and automate data collection, reporting, and validation activities.
This internship provides hands-on experience in global trade compliance, customs duty recovery, data analytics, process improvement, and business automation. This is a temporary role and is expected to last 3 - 6 months.
Key Responsibilities
Data Collection & Validation
  • Collect and consolidate import and export transaction data from internal systems, suppliers, freight providers, and customs documentation.
  • Review and validate data for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with duty drawback requirements.
  • Reconcile shipment records, customs entries, invoices, and related documentation.
  • Maintain organized records and supporting documentation for drawback claim preparation.
  • Identify and resolve data discrepancies through collaboration with stakeholders.

Process Analysis & Documentation
  • Document current-state data collection and reporting processes.
  • Develop process maps and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Analyze workflow bottlenecks, manual touchpoints, and data quality issues.
  • Recommend process improvements to increase efficiency and accuracy.

Automation & Reporting
  • Assist in developing automated solutions for data extraction, cleansing, validation, and reporting.
  • Create dashboards, reports, and tracking tools to monitor drawback-related activities.
  • Utilize tools such as Python, SQL, Power BI, Microsoft Excel or any other technology/tool to automate and streamline data processing.
  • Test and validate automated workflows to ensure data integrity and reliability.
  • Support implementation and user adoption of new automation solutions.

Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Partner with Logistics, Operations / Quality Control, Supply Chain, Finance, IT, and Vendors to obtain required information.
  • Participate in meetings to gather business requirements and provide project updates.
  • Present findings, process improvements, and automation recommendations to stakeholders.

Qualifications
Required
  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Information Systems, Data Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Required: Python, SQL, ETL/Data Processing, APIs & File Integration, Git/GitHub, Microsoft Excel
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred
  • Preferred: AI/LLM & NLP Basics, Pandas + Polars, Document Intelligence Tools
  • Familiarity with supply chain, logistics, customs compliance, or international trade concepts.
  • Experience working with large datasets and performing data validation.
