Job description

The Senior Mechanical Engineer role leverages expertise in Mechanical Engineering principles to lead the definition, analysis, and design of mechanical systems, ensuring compliance with project objectives and stakeholder needs.
  • Leads design of assemblies and structures for the integration of complex mechanical systems and components digitally before physical production
  • Performs stress and structural design analysis, including assessing the strength, durability, and safety of components under various stress conditions
  • Performs functional analysis to decompose high-level technical and schedule requirements into detailed tasking
  • Tasks engineers and teams in generation of concepts, drawings, electronic models, and documentation used for manufacturing, integration, and testing
  • Reviews and communicates metrics for technical and schedule progress
  • Identifies and assesses potential risks associated with designs and their manufacture and proposes mitigation strategies
  • Liaison with manufacturing and process engineers, systems engineers, and simulator designers to ensure integration of mechanical systems is feasible and achievable

  • BS degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering or a relevant technical field
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in a combination of mechanical engineering and a related technical domain
  • Experienced in identifying resource needs and tasking personnel and teams
  • Proficiency in the interpretation and creation of technical drawings and 3D models using CAD, interface control documents, requirements specifications, and system models
  • Experienced in design for manufacturing and knowledge of common manufacturing methods
  • Proficiency in principles of solid mechanics, hydraulics, and materials
  • Must possess a working knowledge of ASME Y14.1 and Y14.5 GD&T standards
  • Awareness of risk management processes
  • Strong computer skills and experience with standard office software

Preferred Skills and Experience
  • Experience with naval or industrial power plants
  • Licensed Structural Engineer, Professional Engineer or Engineering Intern/Engineer in Training (E.I or E.I.T) certification
  • Proficiency with Model Based Design (MBD)
  • Experience with any combination of: Building Information Models (BIM), AutoDesk Revit, Deltek CostPoint, SolidWorks and SolidWorks PDM, Jama requirements management, TipQA
  • Proficiency in any combination of: HVAC, Fire Alarm and Suppression Systems (FASS), piping and valves, structural decking, industrial simulation
  • Knowledge and/or experience with relevant quality management systems (e.g., ISO 9001)
  • Experience with scripting languages (e.g., Python) for data analysis or automation
  • Experience in test planning and execution for complex systems
