Our interns gain exposure to real projects while working side by side with senior staff. Through our Developing Professionals Network, interns gain mentorship, networking opportunities and lifelong career connections.

Our Property & Buildings Team is seeking a Full-Time Plumbing & Fire Protection Engineering Co-op - Fall 2026 / Winter 2027 to work out of our Philadelphia, PA office. This temporary position is seeking individuals currently enrolled in an Undergraduate or Graduate degree program through Drexel University.

This co-op is anticipated to take place during the Fall 2026 semester. The anticipated dates of this co-op are September 22nd - March 26th as part of the Drexel Co-op Program. Start dates may be flexible.

Your Impact

Students will have the opportunity to gain experience in projects within the infrastructure, commercial, higher education, science & technology and healthcare sectors. WSP's projects include both renovation and new construction, both locally and nationally. Successful candidates will participate in all aspects of plumbing and fire protection engineering and design as it relates to the building and construction industry. This is an excellent opportunity for students looking to gain hands-on experience in the field of engineering. Throughout the cycle, the Co-op should expect to:

  • Support a variety of engineering tasks with the goal to develop technical, social, and ethical skills.
  • Learn basic principles of Plumbing & Fire Protection Engineering.
  • Become familiar with reading and interpreting building plans and plumbing/fire protection diagrams.
  • Assist with project research, field work, and preliminary design calculations and analysis.
  • Learn Autodesk Revit to model Plumbing & Fire Protection components and systems.
  • Collaborate with senior engineers to develop engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Travel to job sites to survey and review existing buildings and construction progress through various stages of a project.
  • Become familiar with various engineering standards and codes.
  • Assist in collecting and maintaining project documentation.
  • Complete training on assigned tasks.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
  • Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.
  • Please note that there is no relocation or housing assistance associated with this co-op.
Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • Actively enrolled in an accredited Mechanical Engineering, Architectural Engineering, Civil Engineering, or related Undergraduate program through Drexel University with an anticipated graduation date of March 2027 or later.
  • Must be 18 or older.
  • Demonstrated interest in Plumbing Engineering, Fire Protection Engineering, or related, field and have a strong desire to advance skills related to WSP's work and projects.
  • Competent interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.
  • Capable of taking direction from leadership, mentors, and managers to executive projects.
  • Basic proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, spreadsheets, technology, and tools.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP's health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
  • Authorization to work in the United States at the start of the internship

Preferred Qualifications

  • Actively enrolled in an accredited Mechanical Engineering, Architectural Engineering, Civil Engineering, or related Masters or PhD program through Drexel University with an anticipated graduation date of March 2027 or later.
  • Experience using Autodesk AutoCAD and Revit.
  • Prior internship and leadership involvement on campus

Compensation:

Expected Pay: $23.90 - $31.11 per hour
