Summary:

We are seeking a hands-on Designer to design custom packaged pump stations, modular pump houses, booster pump systems, and fire pump systems. This is not a basic CAD drafting position. We are looking for someone who can understand how a mechanical system works, take a P&ID and project requirements, and develop a practical, manufacturable design.

You will design real equipment that is fabricated and assembled in our shop. That means working in Autodesk Inventor, solving piping and equipment layout challenges, and regularly walking onto the manufacturing floor to verify dimensions, answer questions, and resolve design issues.

If you enjoy mechanical systems, complex 3D layouts, and seeing your designs become finished equipment, this position may be a good fit.

Responsibilities of the Engineer/Designer include but are not limited to:

  • Design custom packaged pump stations and modular pump houses.
  • Develop detailed 3D models and assemblies using Autodesk Inventor.
  • Turn P&IDs, specifications, and equipment submittals into complete mechanical and piping layouts.
  • Route suction and discharge piping while considering system requirements, fabrication, maintenance access, and equipment clearances.
  • Integrate pumps, motors, valves, piping, instrumentation, HVAC, electrical panels, and controls into complete packaged systems.
  • Create fabrication, assembly, and piping drawings for manufacturing.

  • Design pipe supports, equipment supports, brackets, and fabricated components.
  • Review vendor drawings and equipment submittals.
  • Develop accurate bills of materials.
  • Identify design conflicts before they reach production.
  • Work directly with fabrication and assembly personnel to solve real-world design and manufacturing issues.
  • Update designs based on approved shop changes and manufacturing feedback.
  • ·Help improve standard designs, CAD libraries, and Autodesk Inventor iLogic automation.

Qualifications of the Engineer/Designer include but are not limited to:

  • Strong understanding of fabrication methods (welding, machining, assembly)
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and practical problem-solving skills.
  • Experience with Autodesk Inventor or similar 3D mechanical design software.
  • Ability to read and understand P&IDs, mechanical drawings, equipment submittals, and technical specifications.
  • Working knowledge of mechanical equipment, piping, pumps, valves, or industrial systems.
  • Experience creating detailed fabrication or manufacturing drawings.
  • Ability to think in three dimensions and coordinate complex equipment layouts.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple custom projects.
  • Willingness to work directly with manufacturing personnel and spend time on the shop floor.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with packaged pump systems, municipal water systems, fire pumps, industrial piping, skid-mounted equipment, structural steel, pipe supports, HVAC equipment, or custom equipment manufacturing is a plus.

  • Experience with Autodesk Inventor iLogic or CAD automation is also a plus.

What We’re Looking For

  • Practical, solutions-oriented mindset
  • Ability to balance engineering theory with real-world constraints
  • Strong attention to detail without losing sight of project deadlines
  • Good communication across engineering, shop, and customers

Additional Information:

  • Working Conditions: Office environment
  • Training/Certifications: N/A
  • Shift Time/Overtime: Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. + overtime as needed
  • Travel: N/A
  • Education: A bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or a related field is preferred. Relevant mechanical design and manufacturing experience may be considered in place of a degree.

This Position Is a Good Fit If You…

  • Enjoy figuring out how mechanical systems actually work.
  • Can look beyond the drawing and understand how equipment will be fabricated and assembled.
  • Are comfortable walking onto the shop floor to verify a dimension or solve a problem.
  • Ask questions when equipment or project requirements do not make sense.
  • Can identify piping, equipment, and clearance conflicts before manufacturing finds them.
  • Enjoy custom projects where every system is a little different.

This position is not intended for someone looking solely for a desk-based engineering role or basic CAD drafting work. Our Engineer / Designers are expected to understand the systems they design, make engineering and design decisions, and work directly with the people building the equipment.
