  • Learn and support bill of materials (BOM) processes for the department, including creating and updating BOMs for drafted projects.
  • Verify drawings and BOMs for accuracy and completeness, ensuring they align with quotes and customer requirements.
  • Collaborate closely with the engineering manager to review designs, resolve technical questions, and implement feedback.
  • Communicate regularly with the estimating department to clarify design details, confirm scope, and address discrepancies between quotes and drawings.
  • Coordinate with the production floor as needed to answer questions about drawings and materials and to support smooth manufacturing.

  • Associate of Science (AS) degree in design, mechanical design, or architectural design.
  • At least 1 year of experience using AutoCAD, preferably including AutoCAD LT.
  • Proven attention to detail demonstrated through previous work experience or school projects.
  • Mechanical drafting skills with the ability to produce clear and accurate 2D drawings.
  • Working knowledge of mechanical design principles relevant to door and component layouts.
  • Ability to learn and apply bill of materials (BOM) processes.
  • Strong communication skills to work effectively with engineering, estimating, and production teams.
  • Ability to follow established procedures and maintain organized documentation.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Prior professional experience using AutoCAD in a drafting or design role.
  • Experience working in a manufacturing environment, particularly related to custom products.
  • Familiarity with wooden door construction or similar building components.
  • Experience with bill of materials (BOM) creation and maintenance.
  • Exposure to mechanical or architectural drafting projects in an academic or professional setting.
  • Ability to manage multiple drafting assignments and meet project timelines.

Work Environment

This role is based in a medium-sized manufacturing company that produces custom, high-end wooden doors for the residential and light commercial markets. The AutoCAD Drafter works within the engineering department in close partnership with the engineering manager and maintains frequent communication with the estimating department and periodic interaction with the production floor. The total workforce is approximately 120 employees, with a small, focused engineering team that provides a collaborative and supportive environment.
