Service Manager – Automotive Fleet Maintenance & Damage Repair


Budget Rent a Car of Birmingham is seeking an experienced Service Manager to lead our vehicle maintenance and damage repair operations. This is an excellent opportunity for an automotive professional with experience in auto shop management, fleet maintenance, repair operations, claims/damage, technician management, and cost control.

The Service Manager oversees the daily maintenance and damage repair functions for our car and truck fleet. This position is responsible for keeping vehicles safe, road-ready, and cost-effective while providing exceptional service to both internal and external customers.


What You'll Do

  • Manage the daily maintenance and damage repair operations for our vehicle fleet
  • Monitor and control maintenance, repair, and damage-related expenses
  • Select, coordinate, and manage outside vendors for mechanical and body repairs
  • Review repair orders and identify opportunities to improve repair efficiency and control costs
  • Oversee budgeting and preventive maintenance programs
  • Work to reduce out-of-service vehicle metrics and minimize vehicle downtime
  • Enforce safety standards and maintain a safe, professional shop environment
  • Ensure operations comply with OSHA and other regulatory requirements
  • Manage repair operations while maintaining high standards for safety, quality, and customer service

Minimum Qualifications

  • Clean driving record
  • Automotive knowledge and background in automotive repairs
  • 2+ years of management experience, preferably in a rental car, automotive shop, fleet maintenance, or service-oriented environment
  • Ability to lift up to 70 pounds
  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Valid driver's license

Preferred Qualifications

  • Excellent mechanical knowledge
  • 2-5+ years of management experience
  • Experience leading technicians, managing repair operations, and controlling maintenance costs

The ideal candidate is a results-driven automotive leader who understands what it takes to run an efficient repair operation. You should be comfortable managing technicians, working with outside repair vendors, reviewing repair orders, controlling maintenance and damage costs, and keeping vehicles moving through the repair process.

Experience in automotive shop management, fleet maintenance, body or mechanical repair, service management, or automotive claims/damage operations is highly valuable. The successful candidate will be committed to maximizing fleet availability while maintaining high standards of safety, quality, cost control, and customer service.
