Scrap Buyer - Metal Recycling - Base Salary to 100k/year - Tampa, FL

  • Our client, a global recycling company, is seeking a Scrap Buyer to purchase ferrous and non-ferrous scrap metal from scrap yards, demolition contractors, industrial manufacturers, auto recyclers, and metal dealers. This role is responsible for developing supplier relationships, negotiating scrap pricing, and sourcing materials throughout the assigned territory.
  • The Scrap Buyer is responsible for assessing the organization's external material requirements, negotiating pricing, coordinating the purchase and delivery of materials, and identifying new suppliers to support purchasing volume and profitability goals.

Responsibilities:

  • Purchase ferrous and non-ferrous scrap metal from scrap yards, demolition contractors, auto recyclers, industrial manufacturers, and metal dealers.
  • Negotiate pricing based on market conditions and company guidelines.
  • Develop new supplier relationships and identify new material sources.
  • Prospect and develop new scrap suppliers through field visits, cold calling, networking, and industry referrals.
  • Maintain relationships with scrap yards, demolition contractors, auto recyclers, industrial accounts, and metal dealers.
  • Monitor scrap market trends to make profitable purchasing decisions.
  • Meet or exceed purchasing volume and profitability goals.
  • Inspect, evaluate, and verify scrap metal grades, quality, and specifications prior to purchase.
  • Resolve supplier issues and maintain accurate purchasing records, supplier information, pricing history, and purchasing documentation.
  • Follow all company safety, environmental, OSHA, and ISO standards.
  • Ability to travel throughout the assigned territory, including occasional overnight travel.
  • Participate in quality, safety, and environmental management system audits.
  • Promote compliance with company safety, environmental, and quality standards among employees, contractors, suppliers, and visitors.

Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience purchasing or selling scrap metal within the recycling and metals industry, required.
  • Experience as a Scrap Buyer, Scrap Purchasing Agent, Scrap Trader, Ferrous Buyer, Non-Ferrous Buyer, Scrap Sales Representative, or similar role within the recycling and metals industry.
  • Experience identifying, grading, sorting, and pricing ferrous and non-ferrous scrap metal.
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English.
  • Experience developing and maintaining supplier relationships and negotiating scrap metal purchases.

Compensation:

  • Base salary in the 85k - 100k/year range plus bonus. Our client also offers competitive health and life benefits & 401k. Relocation assistance is available.
