Job description

Position Overview

The Automotive Mechanic is responsible for performing inspections, preventative maintenance, diagnostics, repairs, and servicing of WinSport’s fleet vehicles and equipment. This role ensures vehicles and equipment are maintained safely, reliably, and efficiently to support year-round operations.

Working under the direction of the Foreman, Vehicle Maintenance, the Automotive Mechanic completes scheduled maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs, and equipment inspections while maintaining accurate service records and adhering to all safety, and regulatory requirements. This position works collaboratively with the Vehicle Maintenance team and internal departments to minimize equipment downtime and support operational readiness.

Responsibilities

Vehicle & Equipment Maintenance

  • Perform preventative maintenance, inspections, diagnostics, and repairs on fleet vehicles and equipment.
  • Complete servicing and repairs in accordance with manufacturer specifications and organizational standards.
  • Diagnose mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and fuel system issues.
  • Repair and maintain automotive systems including engines, transmissions, brakes, suspension, steering, and electrical components.
  • Maintain and repair small engines, utility vehicles, trailers, and specialized equipment as required.
  • Assist with seasonal preparation of equipment, including winterization and operational readiness inspections.

Diagnostics & Troubleshooting

  • Utilize diagnostic tools and equipment to identify mechanical and electrical issues.
  • Troubleshoot complex equipment problems and recommend appropriate repair solutions.
  • Research repair procedures and technical information as required.
  • Provide technical support and knowledge sharing with team members and apprentices.

Shop Operations & Safety

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
  • Properly use, maintain, and store tools, equipment, and shop resources.
  • Follow all Occupational Health & Safety requirements, safe work procedures, and manufacturer guidelines.
  • Use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Participate in safety meetings, inspections, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Team Collaboration

  • Work collaboratively with mechanics, apprentices, and the Foreman to prioritize repairs and meet operational needs.
  • Support training and mentorship of apprentices as required.
  • Communicate equipment status and repair updates effectively.
  • Assist other operational teams when required to support organizational objectives.
Qualifications
  • Journeyperson Automotive Service Technician, Heavy Equipment Technician, or related Red Seal trade certification preferred.
  • Minimum 3–5 years of experience in automotive, fleet, or equipment maintenance.
  • Experience maintaining fleet vehicles, trucks, trailers, or heavy equipment considered an asset.
  • Strong mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and diagnostic skills.
  • Experience with preventative maintenance programs and computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) considered an asset.
  • Experience with small engines, utility vehicles, snowmobiles, or specialized equipment considered an asset.
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License and clean driving abstract.

Working Conditions
