Automotive Technician — Journey Auto Repair

Location: In Person (Minnesota)
Job Type: Full-Time
Schedule: M-F 7:30-5, NO WEEKENDS. EVER.

A Personal Message From Pete (Owner)

If you’re reading this, you’ve probably seen a ton of job postings for technicians. And you’ve probably worked in places that promised the world and delivered the bare minimum.

I get it.

Before I owned Journey Auto Repair, I was a technician myself. I know what it feels like to be unappreciated, burnt out, unheard, underpaid, and stuck in a shop that won’t invest in tools, training, equipment, or people. I know what it’s like to work in a culture where your voice doesn’t matter.

Journey Auto Repair exists because I wanted to build a shop that was the complete opposite of all of that.

How Journey Auto Repair Started

Before buying this shop in 2019, I spent several years overseas running a nonprofit trade school in Haiti — teaching young men and women how to work on cars, weld, and develop valuable trades. My dream was (and still is) to create opportunity and change lives.

I bought Kurth’s (now Journey Auto Repair – New Hope) to become the economic engine that fuels that mission.

Since then:

  • We opened a second location in Andover, actively seeking our third location
  • We donated over $50,000 in repairs to frontline workers during the pandemic
  • We hand-delivered more than 2,000 meals to families in need in partnership with a local restaurant
  • We have now given away over 50 cars to individuals and families needing reliable transportation
  • We’ve built a team of drama-free, humble, hardworking individuals
  • We’ve grown rapidly in customers, sales, equipment, and team size

Impact isn’t an add-on here — it’s part of who we are.

What Makes Our Shop Different

When I took over in 2019, I made a commitment:

Break industry norms. Build a culture of ownership, alignment, stewardship, and uncommon standards. Treat our people right. Provide the tools and environment techs actually deserve.

Here’s what that looks like in real life:

  • We invest in updated tools and equipment
  • We make sure every tech has what they need to work safely and efficiently
  • We listen — really listen — to our team
  • We appreciate our people and show it
  • We operate with full transparency
  • We don’t do drama
  • We push for growth — as individuals and as a shop

Are we perfect? No.
Are we better than most shops out there? Absolutely — and we’re improving every day.

Why We’re Hiring

We’ve grown quickly — in customers, sales, systems, tools, staff, and community impact. To continue that growth and maintain our high standards of care, we are adding another Automotive Technician who wants to be part of something meaningful, healthy, and long-term.

If you want a place where you’re respected, supported, and surrounded by people who actually want to be here, this might be the right fit.

What You’ll Do

  • Diagnose, repair, and maintain domestic & foreign vehicles
  • Collaborate closely with Service Advisors to ensure accurate communication
  • Perform high-quality repairs with attention to detail
  • Keep the work environment clean, safe, and efficient
  • Maintain a positive, team-oriented attitude
  • Contribute to the culture and mission of Journey Auto Repair

What We’re Looking For

  • 3+ years of experience as an automotive technician
  • Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Commitment to honesty, integrity, and high-quality workmanship
  • A positive, drama-free, growth-minded personality
  • Interest in being part of a mission-driven shop
