Job Description: Estimator - Body Shop

Position Title: Estimator
Department: Body Shop
Reports To: Body Shop Manager/Owner
Employment Type: Full-Time
Location: OC Automotive Resources


Job Summary:

The Estimator is responsible for assessing vehicle damage and providing accurate cost estimates to customers. This role involves thorough vehicle inspections, preparation of detailed repair plans, and clear communication with both customers and insurance companies. The Estimator works closely with technicians, suppliers, and insurance adjusters to ensure the seamless execution of repairs while maintaining high-quality standards and customer satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Damage Assessment:
    • Conduct thorough inspections of vehicles to identify the extent of damage.
    • Use estimating software and industry-standard guides to generate accurate repair estimates.
    • Photograph damage and document vehicle conditions for reference.
  • Estimate Preparation:
    • Create detailed repair plans, outlining labor, parts, materials, and time required for each job.
    • Collaborate with technicians to ensure the accuracy of estimates and assess the feasibility of repairs.
    • Communicate with parts suppliers to obtain pricing information and availability.
  • Customer Communication:
    • Explain estimates and the repair process to customers in a clear and professional manner.
    • Provide recommendations on repair options, timelines, and pricing.
    • Answer customer questions and address any concerns about the repair process.
  • Insurance Liaison:
    • Work closely with insurance companies to facilitate claims and ensure approval of estimates.

  • Customer Service:
    • Deliver exceptional customer service by providing timely updates on repair progress and ensuring customer satisfaction.

  • Cost Control & Profitability:
    • Strive to balance customer satisfaction and profitability by maintaining an efficient and cost-effective estimating process.
    • Identify opportunities to maximize revenue and minimize waste while ensuring quality repairs.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Education and Experience:
    • High school diploma or equivalent required; post-secondary education in automotive repair, business management, or related field preferred.
    • Minimum of 2-3 years of experience as an estimator or in a related position within the automotive repair or body shop industry.
    • Familiarity with industry-standard estimating software (e.g., CCC ONE, Mitchell, Audatex).
  • Skills and Competencies:
    • Strong knowledge of automotive body repair procedures, materials, and labor requirements.
    • Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain complex technical details to customers in a clear, friendly manner.
    • Strong organizational and time-management skills to handle multiple estimates and repairs simultaneously.
    • Proficiency in estimating software and ability to produce accurate and thorough estimates.
    • Detail-oriented with a focus on accuracy in both paperwork and repair analysis.
    • Customer-focused with strong problem-solving skills and the ability to handle difficult situations professionally.

Physical Requirements:
