The Computing Solutions Department is looking for a Senior Principal Systems Engineer for the development of the next generation product line solutions in Cedar Rapids, IA. The Computing Solutions organization is focused on the development of solutions that can be applied across a wide variety of Avionics products in safety critical applications. Our team is responsible for the development, certification and sustainment of these solutions.
We are seeking candidates with a proven history in specifying, designing, verifying, and testing highly integrated computing and graphics systems. Your responsibilities will span the creation of comprehensive plans, requirements, architecture definition, meticulous verification and validation, and the development of detailed design documentation for our next generation solutions with the product line avionic electronic systems. This is also an excellent opportunity to work with a highly experienced team of architects and senior engineers with program visibility across the Avionics business units.
What You Will Do:
  • Capture requirements, design, test cases, and test procedures in accordance with program development plans and the objectives of ARP-4754B.
  • Integrate, validate, and verify system functionality in the lab
  • Technical collaboration among systems, hardware, AEH and software design functions.
  • Assist in resolving technical problems that cross hardware and software functional domain areas.
  • 5-10% travel as needed.

Qualifications You Must Have:
  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 10 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 7 years of experience.
  • Experience with safety critical system, hardware, or software development (e.g. DO-178C, DO-254, or ARP4754A/B).
  • Experience authoring and validating requirements.

Qualifications We Prefer:
  • Experience with the avionics equipment certification process.
  • Experience working with stakeholders to generate concepts of operations and use cases.
  • Experience authoring in-depth technical documents
  • Experience working with and testing embedded hardware and software.
  • Experience developing automated tests utilizing scripting.
  • Excellent communication skills for both internal and external customers.
  • Adaptable to change, determined to accomplish tasks based on program schedule, collaborating with teammates to make the best decisions, enjoy learning new technologies, be self-motivated and contribute to a positive work environment.

The salary range for this role is 132,400 USD - 251,600 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate's work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
