Due to internal transfers, Northern Star (Pogo) LLC have a challenging and rewarding opportunity for a Mine General Foreman at our world-class Pogo operation in Alaska on a rotational camp schedule.

What's the role?

The Maintenance Foreman reports to the Project Manager, and is responsible for assigning tasks and resources to the Shift Supervisors, guiding and supporting them in supervision of the underground mining operation

Duties include:

  • Coordinate the daily management, control and supervision of the working areas of the maintenance team in accordance with Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) Act & Regulations.
  • Develop, implement and maintain safe work procedures and ensure work is carried out in an environmentally sustainable manner.
  • Ensure ore is mined efficiently to planned targets.
  • Communicate the business objectives with the operations team to ensure all activities are focused on agreed outcomes.
  • Ensure all safety related activities are undertaken in accordance with Company policy and MSHA requirements including Hazard ID's, pre-start checks, pre-start meetings, and incident reporting.
  • Develop a culture of high performance and behaviours that are consistent with agreed values
  • Build and mentor the mining team ensuring performance objectives and measures are developed and assessed with focus on high technical standards and continuous improvement.
  • Complete project work and presentations to a professional standard as and when required.

What are we looking for?

You'll be a highly organised individual who will display behaviour consistent to our Northern Star Values of Safety, Teamwork, Accountability, Respect and Results, looking to work with the business for the long term and be an integral part in its future growth and development.

The specifics:

  • Minimum 5 years production experience in a mechanised hard-rock underground mine.
  • Experience in the supervision of mining operations employees.
  • Extensive knowledge of mining technology and heavy production equipment.
  • Development drilling and blasting.
  • Knowledge of ground support techniques.
  • Knowledge of competency based training and assessment methods.
  • Experience in the practical application of the Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) Act & Regulations
  • Experience in incident investigation and reporting.
  • Auditing or inspection experience.
  • Experience in contract management.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Be able to pass a background check and post offer physical.

The Details:

Working a 2 week on, 2 week off schedule of days, up to 12 hours a day or more at a remote campsite. Extreme conditions, including but not limited to extreme and changing weather conditions, dust, mud, varying levels of noise, varying degrees of light and dark, in and around artificial light and in a confined work area.

Employees are required to stay on site at the company provided camp during the work rotation. Camp facilities provide dining service, games room, exercise & weight room, sauna, and accommodation rooms. Dormitory rooms have a land line phone, great Wi-Fi & cable TV. Cell service is available through Wi-Fi. The Company provides a bus service to and from Fairbanks, Delta Junction and Tok, Alaska.
