Job description

Ironworker Industrial Journeyman
Austin Industrial is a merit shop, employee-owned company and has been a provider of construction, maintenance, plant services, turnaround and specialty services to the oil, gas and chemical, energy (power and ethanol), and manufacturing industries for more than 100 years.
Summary
Performs duties to raise, place and unite girders, columns and other structural steel members to form completed structures or structure framework. This is accomplished by performing the following essential duties and responsibilities. Must have a minimum of 4 years of progressive experience in the Industrial Ironworker craft. Other duties may be assigned.
Responsibilities
  • Reads blueprints and selects required material for construction.
  • Sets up hoisting equipment for raising and placing structural steel members.
  • Fastens steel members to cable of hoist, using chain, cable or rope.
  • Guides structure being lifted into proper position and aligns rivet holes with corresponding holes
  • Drives drift pins through rivet holes.
  • Verifies vertical and horizontal alignment using plumb bob and level.
  • Bolts aligned structures to keep them in position until permanently riveted, bolted or welded into place.

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Language Skills - Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization. For safety reasons, it is imperative that the employee be able to read and speak fluent English.
Mathematical Skills - Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
Reasoning Ability -Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations - Depending on the job site, certain certificates or licenses may be required. NCCER and Advanced Rigging Preferred.
Other Qualifications - It may be necessary to travel or commute for this position.
