QinetiQ US is seeking highly qualified ServiceNow Developer to assist with a critical Department of War client located in the Chantilly, VA area.  Candidates should be willing to work onsite within a team of 4-6 developers to mentor, train and lead the implementation of crticial ServiceNow functions agency wide.  

The ServiceNow Senior Developer is responsible for designing, developing, and implementing complex technical solutions on the organization’s ServiceNow platform. This role acts as a primary technical subject matter expert, translating business requirements into scalable, efficient, and secure workflows and applications. The Senior Developer plays a critical role in mentoring junior developers, establishing coding best practices, managing advanced integrations, and ensuring the overall health and architectural integrity of the platform while operating within an Agile framework. 


Technical Solution Design & Advanced Development

  • Design, build, and customize ServiceNow applications and modules (e.g., ITSM, ITOM, HRSD, CSM) using advanced scripting (JavaScript, GlideRecord, GlideSystem, Business Rules, Client Scripts, Script Includes).
  • Develop and enhance Service Portals using HTML, CSS, AngularJS, and Bootstrap.
  • Translate business concepts and functional requirements into robust, scalable technical designs and implementation plans.
  • Troubleshoot complex technical issues, perform root-cause analysis, and implement effective performance optimizations.

System Integration & Architecture

  • Architect and implement secure integrations between ServiceNow and external third-party systems using REST, SOAP, JSON, XML, and Integration Hub.
  • Maintain data integrity and mapping during integrations, ensuring optimal system performance and minimizing technical debt.
  • Assist in defining and maintaining the long-term architectural roadmap for the platform.

Code Quality & Mentorship

  • Conduct rigorous code reviews for peer and junior developers to ensure adherence to ServiceNow best practices, security standards, and internal guidelines.
  • Mentor and guide junior developers and administrators, fostering a culture of continuous technical learning and high-quality delivery.
  • Act as a technical escalation point for complex development challenges.

Change Governance & Deployment

  • Participate in the Configuration Control Board (CCB) as a technical Subject Matter Expert (SME) to evaluate the technical feasibility and impact of proposed changes.
  • Manage complex deployments using Update Sets, CI/CD pipelines, and ServiceNow Application Repository, ensuring smooth transitions from lower environments to Production.
  • Ensure all development work follows defined change governance, compliance, security, and architectural standards.

Technical Documentation & Enablement

  • Develop and maintain comprehensive technical documentation, including architectural diagrams, technical design documents (TDD), and system configurations.
  • Create and update Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for deployment, coding standards, and platform

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 5-7+ years of hands-on experience in ServiceNow development, configuration, and administration.
  • Advanced proficiency in JavaScript, HTML, CSS, AngularJS, and ServiceNow scripting APIs.
  • Strong experience building and managing complex REST/SOAP API integrations.
  • Solid understanding of Agile/Scrum methodologies and experience working in sprint-based delivery cycles.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to articulate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

  • ServiceNow Certified Application Developer (CAD) strongly preferred.
  • ServiceNow Certified Implementation Specialist (CIS) in one or more relevant modules (ITSM, ITOM, HRSD, etc.).
  • Experience with Automated Test Framework (ATF) and setting up automated testing pipelines.
  • Familiarity with ITIL processes and strong foundational knowledge of ITSM principles (ITIL v4 certification is a plus).
  • Familiarity with DoD SAPs

The salary range for this role is $135,000 - $185,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels.
