We're looking for a Surface Mount Technology (SMT) Design Manufacturing Engineer to join the Specs Technical Operations / NPI team to work on our next generation Augmented Reality Specs!

What you'll do:

  • Collaborate with engineering, board designers, and contract manufacturers to ensure SMT design for manufacturability

  • Provide guidance and review of PCBA and padstack designs to optimize yields, performance, and reliability

  • Provide subject matter expertise on SMT process and DFM requirements to Engineering and Operations

  • Plan, manage, and execute an SMT technology roadmap to drive product miniaturization, process capability, and for SMT adjacent technologies (ACF bonding, hot-bar, laser welding, etc).

  • Support prototype builds with contract manufacturers in Asia (estimated travel 10-30%, primarily to Asia)

  • Plan, coordinate and analyze Design-of-Experiments to improve and extend our manufacturing capabilities

  • Drive continuous improvement in factory yield and throughput

  • Provide failure analysis and resolution for SMT related defects

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Strong background in SMT screen printing, placement, reflow, depanelization, POP soldering, ACF bonding, stacked boards, and other SMT technologies

  • Experience utilizing DFM tools to ensure proper PCBA and padstack designs

  • Knowledge of PCB fabrication processes and PCB stackups

  • Familiar with analytic tools such x-ray, cross-sections, red-dye, etc.

  • Solid understanding of Six Sigma concepts

  • Demonstrated ability to design, execute and evaluate Design-of-Experiments

  • Able to prioritize duties and work independently

  • Excellent interpersonal skills with a high attention to detail

Minimum Qualifications:

  • B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, chemistry, physics or equivalent

  • 8+ years of experience with SMT in consumer electronics industry

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree in a related technical field

  • Experience working collaboratively with both internal and external partners, domestic and overseas

  • Six Sigma Black Belt certification

Compensation

In the United States, work locations are assigned a pay zone which determines the salary range for the position. The successful candidate's starting pay will be determined based on job-related skills, experience, qualifications, work location, and market conditions. The starting pay may be negotiable within the salary range for the position. These pay zones may be modified in the future.

Zone A (CA, WA, NYC):

The base salary range for this position is $229,000-$343,000 annually.


Zone B:

The base salary range for this position is $218,000-$326,000 annually.

Zone C:

The base salary range for this position is $195,000-$292,000 annually.This position is eligible for equity in the form of RSUs.
