Job Title/High Level Position Summary:

  • We are seeking a motivated Senior User Experience Designer to join our Enabling Technologies team, supporting Surgical Automation and Visualization. In this role, you will define, champion, and govern the end-to-end user experience across our portfolio of MedTech products and digital solutions.
  • This role will serve as the voice of the user throughout the product development lifecycle, partnering closely with surgeons, clinical experts, product managers, software engineers, quality, regulatory, and leadership teams to ensure our products deliver intuitive, efficient, and safe experiences.
  • The ideal candidate is passionate about understanding how clinicians work and excels at translating complex clinical workflows into elegant, user-centered solutions. They will be responsible for both the experience strategy and the user interface design of our products, establishing a cohesive design language and interaction framework across software applications, surgical planning tools, navigation systems, augmented reality platforms, and future digital healthcare solutions.
  • This individual will play a critical role in helping transform a collection of individual products into a connected and consistent MedTech ecosystem that surgeons trust, adopt, and advocate for.

Key Responsibilities

  • Define and evolve the end-to-end user experience strategy across the MedTech portfolio.
  • Establish a cohesive experience that spans Software as a Medical Device (SaMD), surgical planning software, navigation systems, augmented reality applications, portals, and future digital products.
  • Create and maintain UX principles, interaction standards, and design guidelines that ensure consistency across all products.
  • Serve as the organizational expert on usability, workflow optimization, and surgeon experience.
  • Guide workflow and user experience decision by collaborating with clinical users to create intuitive, efficient, and seamlessly integrated healthcare experiences into actionable design requirements.
  • Conduct user interviews, contextual inquiry, observations, usability testing, workshops, and design validation activities.
  • Identify friction points and opportunities to simplify complex clinical and procedural workflows.
  • Ensure customer insights influence product decisions from design through product implementation.
  • Design intuitive user experiences for web and augmented reality applications.
  • Create wireframes, workflows, user journeys, information architecture, and high-fidelity visual designs.
  • Develop interactive prototypes to validate concepts before implementation.
  • Design experiences that reduce cognitive load and improve efficiency in high-pressure clinical environments.
  • Create intuitive interfaces for complex datasets, 3D visualizations, surgical planning tools, and procedural workflows.
  • Serve as the primary UI designer for the organization.
  • Develop and maintain an enterprise design system including:
  • Visual language
  • Typography
  • Color systems
  • Component libraries
  • Interaction patterns
  • Accessibility standards
  • Ensure consistency across products regardless of platform.
  • Review implementations to ensure design quality and adherence to UX standards.
  • Collaborate with development teams to ensure designs are realized with fidelity.
  • Incorporate usability engineering throughout the product development lifecycle.
  • Partner with Quality and Regulatory teams to ensure user experience activities support applicable medical device requirements.
  • Contribute to usability requirements, use scenarios, risk identification, and mitigation strategies.
  • Support formative and summative usability testing initiatives.
  • Help ensure products are intuitive, safe, and effective for intended users.

Scope / Role Dimensions

  • Partner closely with Product Management to understand product requirements and roadmap priorities.
  • Work with Software Engineering to ensure usability considerations are incorporated early in development.
  • Collaborate with clinical stakeholders to validate workflows and experiences.
  • Participate in product planning, concept development, design reviews, and release readiness activities.
  • Influence decision-making through data, user insights, and design expertise.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Human-Computer Interaction, Interaction Design, Industrial Design, Computer Science, Biomedical Engineering, or related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in UX design, product design, human factors engineering, or experience architecture.
  • Demonstrated success designing complex software products from concept to release.
  • Experience leading UX efforts across multiple products or platforms.
  • Expertise in user research, workflow analysis, usability testing, and interaction design.
  • Strong visual design capabilities and experience creating production-ready UI designs.
  • Proficiency with Figma and other modern design and prototyping tools.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Most possess or be able to obtain and maintain a valid passport to support international business travel, as required by the role.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience within MedTech, healthcare technology, medical devices, or digital health.
  • Experience supporting Software as a Medical Device (SaMD) products.
  • Understanding of human factors engineering and usability engineering for medical devices.
  • Experience with surgical navigation, robotics, orthopedic solutions, or procedural software.
  • Experience designing augmented reality, mixed reality, or immersive experiences.
  • Familiarity with healthcare workflows and clinician-centered product development.
  • Experience establishing enterprise design systems and UX governance frameworks.
