What is an audit associate?

An audit associate provides technical and clerical support for a lead auditor to help examine and verify an organization’s processes or financial information. Under the supervision of an audit department, your duties as an associate auditor include planning and carrying out aspects of an internal audit aimed at improving the efficiency or financial health of a company. In addition to providing accounting assistance, you may conduct interviews with employees and create reports of findings for the auditing department. Qualifications for a career as an audit associate include a bachelor’s degree in accounting, statistics, or a related field, as well as relevant job experience. Audit associates also need excellent attention to detail, strong written and verbal communication skills, and advanced math ability.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an audit associate?

To thrive as an Audit Associate, you need a solid understanding of accounting principles, analytical skills, and a bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related field. Familiarity with audit software (such as CaseWare or IDEA), Microsoft Excel, and sometimes a CPA track or certification is highly valued. Attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and effective communication help Audit Associates excel in client interactions and team environments. These skills and qualifications are critical for ensuring accurate financial assessments and maintaining the integrity of audit processes.

What are some common challenges audit associates face during busy season, and how can they effectively manage their workload?

Audit Associates often experience heavier workloads and tight deadlines during busy season, which can be both challenging and rewarding. Managing multiple client engagements, adapting to changing priorities, and handling large volumes of data are typical hurdles. Effective time management, clear communication with team members, and leveraging audit software for efficiency are key strategies to stay organized. Seeking guidance from senior associates and maintaining a collaborative mindset can also help in successfully navigating peak periods.

A CPA license is not always required to become an audit associate, but many employers prefer or require it for advancement and to perform certain audit tasks. How much money does an audit associate make?

An audit associate's average salary typically ranges from $55,000 to $70,000 per year, depending on experience, location, and firm size. Entry-level positions may start lower, while those with certifications like CPA can earn higher salaries, especially in larger firms or metropolitan areas.

Job description

Production Associate

The Production Associate will support the safe and efficient movement, processing, and handling of materials throughout Redwood Materials' McCarran operations.

Redwood receives a wide variety of end-of-life batteries and battery-containing products, recovers critical minerals and other valuable materials, and transforms those materials into new battery materials and energy-storage products for customers. Production Associates support this closed-loop process by operating production equipment, moving materials, maintaining accurate inventory records, and preparing finished materials and products for storage or shipment.

This role works in a collaborative, fast-paced manufacturing environment and is responsible for following established safety, quality, production, and material-handling requirements.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Support day-to-day operations of continuously running production lines, including material sampling, equipment monitoring, material movement, and performing actions within Ignition and other Human Machine Interfaces (HMIs).
  • Operate and train on material-processing and manufacturing equipment, which may include material-conveyance systems, shredding and milling equipment, screening systems, separation equipment, packaging equipment, and other production machinery.
  • Operate and train on powered industrial trucks, including but not limited to forklifts, reach trucks, pallet jacks, and other material-handling equipment.
  • Pick, stage, load, and deliver materials and inventory required for production areas.
  • Receive inbound shipments of end-of-life batteries, raw materials, packaging supplies, maintenance parts, and engineering equipment.
  • Support the movement of materials between receiving, production, processing, packaging, storage, and shipping areas.
  • Prepare finished battery materials and energy-storage products for storage, internal transfer, or customer shipment.
  • Verify material identification, labels, quantities, weights, lot information, and associated documentation.
  • Maintain accurate data and transactions within a Warehouse Management System, Manufacturing Execution System, or other inventory and production-tracking systems.
  • Generate or complete reports and documentation needed to support operational and management decisions.
  • Participate in physical inventory audits, cycle counts, material verification, and reconciliation activities to ensure inventory accuracy.
  • Follow established material-flow strategies to improve operational efficiency and minimize production downtime.
  • Monitor materials and equipment for abnormalities and promptly report safety, quality, equipment, or process concerns.
  • Support production startups, shutdowns, changeovers, cleaning activities, and routine equipment inspections.
  • Perform basic production and material-handling tasks in accordance with standard operating procedures and training.
  • Support and model quality-control practices to ensure materials and finished products meet production, customer, and safety standards.
  • Identify and properly contain damaged, mislabeled, contaminated, or otherwise nonconforming materials.
  • Maintain clean, organized, and safe production, warehouse, and material-staging areas.
  • Follow all requirements related to hazardous-material handling, personal protective equipment, lockout/tagout, traffic control, and powered industrial truck operation.
  • Foster a culture of safety and compliance, with a strong focus on the safe use of production and material-handling equipment.
  • Work collaboratively with Production, Quality, Maintenance, Warehouse, Logistics, Engineering, and site leadership teams.
  • Participate in training, cross-training, and continuous-improvement activities.
  • Perform other production, packaging, warehouse, or material-handling duties as assigned.

Desired Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (GED) is preferred.
  • Experience working in a manufacturing, production, warehouse, recycling, material-processing, or industrial environment preferred.
  • Experience operating production equipment, material-handling equipment, or powered industrial trucks is preferred.
  • Familiarity with hazardous-material handling practices; HAZWOPER certification preferred, or the ability to obtain certification.
  • Experience working in required personal protective equipment, including safety shoes, hard hats, disposable coveralls, and Powered Air-Purifying Respirators.
  • Basic computer skills and comfort using systems such as HMIs, tablets, warehouse-management systems, or inventory and production-tracking software.
  • Ability to follow standard operating procedures, safety protocols, material-handling requirements, and quality standards.
  • Strong attention to detail with a commitment to safety, quality, traceability, and accuracy.
  • Ability to accurately identify, label, document, and move materials throughout a production environment.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team in a fast-paced, continuously operating environment.
  • Willingness to learn new processes, equipment, and technologies through classroom and on-the-job training.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions and provide clear updates or feedback as needed.
  • Reliable and dependable, with flexibility to work varying shifts, including nights, weekends, holidays, or overtime as needed.
  • A passion for sustainability and making the world a better place!

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local standards, including meeting qualitative and quantitative productivity standards.
  • Ability to complete a respiratory fit test and respiratory medical evaluation.
  • Ability to work in Tyvek suits, Powered Air-Purifying Respirators, and other required personal protective equipment for extended periods, up to a full shift.
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Ability to bend, reach, push, pull, and perform repetitive physical tasks.
  • Ability to climb ladders and stairs.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds as needed.
  • Ability to operate and train on equipment such as forklifts, reach trucks, boom lifts, scissor lifts, and other specialized machinery.

Working Conditions

  • Work may be performed in a variety of environments, including office, indoor industrial, warehouse, production, and outdoor settings.
  • Exposure to environmental conditions such as loud noise, dust, chemicals, moving equipment, and extreme heat or cold.
  • Ability to work in challenging conditions for extended periods, including varying temperatures and industrial environments.
  • Work schedule may vary depending on site operational needs, and flexibility is required.
  • May be required to work nights, weekends, holidays, overtime, or rotating shifts as business needs dictate.
  • The position is full-time. Compensation will be commensurate with experience.
