Manager Facilities Engineering- 1st Shift
The Large Power Systems Division (LPSD) is part of Caterpillar's Power & Energy segment. About LEC (Lafayette Engine Center)
The Lafayette Engine Center (LEC) manufactures the Cat 3500, Cat 3600 and C175 engines helping Caterpillar become the world's leading manufacturer of off-highway diesel and natural gas engines.
The units built at LEC power mining trucks carrying ore to be processed, tugboats guiding ships to harbor, drill rigs tapping oil and gas reserves and generators bringing electricity to communities, hospitals and data centers
Job summary:
The Manager Facilities Engineering will supervise 9-12 direct employees and direct multiple contractors responsible for performing facility services.
This position is responsible for 4 main areas:
  • Campus housekeeping / janitorial services.
  • Facilitator for maintenance and repair of personal workspaces, offices, and common areas throughout the facility.
  • Waste Stream Processes: Recyclables, scrap material, and equipment cleanouts.
  • Groundskeeping and associated maintenance services.

What you will do:
  • Creating and managing janitorial cleaning and beautification schedules for multiple campus buildings and satellite facilities in the area. This includes contract ownership and work direction for janitorial services, carpet cleaning, floor scrubbing, window cleaning, pest control and similar services and direct supervision of Plant Engineering Laborers and in-house facility painters.
  • Decisions made by the incumbent on projects will impact facility work environments, productivity, operating costs, and Caterpillar's image as perceived by customers, dealers, employees, and shareholders. The incumbent is the direct contact for office space maintenance. Incumbent works directly with security, maintenance, administrative assistants, outside vendors, IT, contractors, and project engineers.
  • Challenges of this position include: quickly and correctly identifying problems, working with people and facilitating teamwork; clearly communicating project requirements and deliverables; reviewing and recommending approval of supplier invoices; preparing and issuing purchase orders and work tickets; creating on-going lists of unfinished work items, and follows-up ensuring items are completed on time to meet project deadlines, gaining input from team members; and monitoring team's achievement of project objectives, facilitating project completion and closeout.
  • Management of personnel relocations and documentation of assigned desk locations.
  • Support of all audio/visual equipment in conference rooms, offices and visitor centers including managing contracts and resources that support this work.
  • Management and coordination of office furniture and desk accessory requests including budgeting and repair.
  • Key replacements and lockset repair/replacement.
  • Audio/visual troubleshooting, repair & replacement including data & power.
  • Project management skills are required for small remodel and repair jobs. Likely projects include carpet repairs, flooring replacement and repairs, minor office area remodels, wall painting and repairs.
  • Requires interpersonal skills and communications, also requires organizational and leadership skills with the ability to direct a diverse team of suppliers and specialized professionals. Incumbent must have the ability to grasp complex business processes, interpret facility needs and issues, assist in developing appropriate solutions, and effectively implement at the project and transactional levels.
  • Employee is also responsible for performing other job duties as assigned by Caterpillar management from time to time.

Degree Requirement:
  • Bachelor OR Associate level degree preferred.

Construction Contract Management: Working Knowledge of construction contract management; ability to manage construction contracts with customers and vendors in order to ensure compliance with construction terms and conditions.
Contractor Relationship Management: Extensive Knowledge contractor relationship management; ability to establish and maintain working relations and partnerships with contractors.
Supplier Evaluations and Certification: Extensive Knowledge of supplier evaluations and certification; ability to identify the methods, tools and documentation for evaluating, selecting and certifying vendors, suppliers and partners.
