Position Title
Superintendent of Buildings and Grounds at the Blake Center
Job Description
This position is located at our property in Connecticut, The Blake Center for Faith & Freedom.
Job Summary
The Superintendent of Buildings and Grounds will oversee general maintenance, groundskeeping, landscaping, and construction projects at the Blake Center. The individual in this position will also be responsible for daily hands-on maintenance and groundskeeping work.
Essential Job Functions
- Plan and Coordinate the daily operations of maintenance and groundskeeping at the Blake Center.
- Develop, implement, and manage maintenance schedules and procedures.
- May supervise a small team of grounds and maintenance employees; train new employees on equipment, safety, work procedures, etc.; and oversee daily work.
- Assess the needs of the facility for equipment and supplies.
- Coordinate the schedules and work activities of employees or contractors to avoid conflicts with Blake Center events.
- Maintain records related to costs and inventory.
- Adhere to all safety standards and work practices established by the physical plant, including timely reporting of incidents, if any.
- Inspect as scheduled and perform preventative maintenance on the following:
- Buildings, structures, and foundations
- Vehicles, equipment, and tools
- Electrical and telecommunication systems including: Low voltage systems (Audio-Visual, network connectivity, security systems, gates, etc.)
- Water and sewer systems
- Air conditioning and heating systems
- Review the work site to determine the procedure, material, and equipment needed to complete the assignment.
- Move equipment in and out of storage.
- Make recommendations to the Executive Director projecting the cost and time needed to complete a job.
- Mow grass and edge walkways.
- Weed flowerbeds around shrubs and trees, and as directed.
- Remove dead branches, prune, and maintain trees. Inspect trees for damage from pests and disease.
- Maintain trails on the property
- Remove leaves from the property.
- Remove snow and ice using power snow blowers, chemical ice melts, truck-mounted plows, shovels, and ice scrapers.
- Misc. Duties may include but are not limited to:
- Move furniture and set up meeting spaces and offices as requested.
- Monitor the property for security.
- Remain accessible and available in the event of emergencies and when needed to meet the ongoing mission of the Blake Center.
- Collaborate with employees from the main campus for larger construction, maintenance, or grounds projects.
Required Qualifications
Education and Experience
Requires a high school diploma and three years of experience in minor construction or maintenance repair work or any combination of education, training, or experience that fulfills the needs of the College. Must also possess a valid driver's license.
