Title: Audio Systems Technician

Employee Status: Regular Part Time

Work From Home Option: Not Applicable

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Job Overview:

Seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Audio Technician to join our production technology team supporting venue audio systems and events. This role is responsible for the setup, operation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of professional audio systems used in live production environments.
The ideal candidate has a solid understanding of professional audio fundamentals, enjoys working in fast-paced production settings, and is comfortable supporting digital audio workflows. Experience with Dante audio networking is a key requirement, as Dante serves as the primary audio transport throughout our facility.
This is an excellent opportunity for an early- to mid-career audio professional looking to grow within a professional broadcast environment.

Essential Functions:

  • Ownership of venue-wide audio systems, preventative maintenance, commissioning, documentation, and operational readiness.
  • Set up, configure, and operate professional audio equipment for live broadcasts, productions, and special events.
  • Install and maintain microphones, loudspeakers, amplifiers, audio interfaces, and digital mixing consoles.
  • Configure, troubleshoot, and support Dante audio networks, including routing, device discovery, clock synchronization, and signal verification.
  • Perform system checks, sound checks, and audio line testing prior to productions.
  • Monitor audio quality during rehearsals and live productions, making adjustments as needed.
  • Troubleshoot audio, networking, and signal-flow issues quickly to minimize production interruptions.
  • Maintain organized equipment inventory, cable management, and clean technical workspaces.
  • Support preventative maintenance and equipment testing throughout the facility.
  • Interface with broadcast production trucks and engineering teams to integrate Belmont Park's facility infrastructure, including audio systems, broadcast video, fiber transport, Dante audio networking, intercom, synchronization (PTP/NTP/Genlock), and IP networking, ensuring operational readiness for all live racing and special event productions.

Qualifications:

  • 3-7 years of experience supporting professional audio systems in live events, broadcast, AV, theater, corporate or production environments.
  • Working knowledge of professional audio signal flow.
  • Advanced experience with Dante audio networking (Level 2 certification or greater)
  • Experience operating digital audio consoles or digital signal processing systems.
  • Understanding of microphones, loudspeakers, amplifiers, mixers, and balanced audio systems.
  • Ability to diagnose and resolve common audio and connectivity issues.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work effectively within a production team.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work safely around technical equipment, racks, and cable infrastructure.
  • Willingness to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and flexible schedules based on production requirements.
  • Experience with large-scale sports, broadcast, entertainment, or live event venues
  • Position supports multiple NYRA venues (Belmont and Saratoga) and may require seasonal travel.
  • Associate's degree, technical certification, or Bachelor's degree in Broadcast Technology, Audio Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Networking, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and relevant professional experience.
  • Preferred Skills:
    • Dante Certification (Level 1, 2, or 3) or willingness to obtain certification.
    • Experience with digital consoles such as Yamaha, Allen & Heath, DiGiCo, Calrec, Lawo, or Studer.
    • Familiarity with BSS Soundweb, Q-SYS, Biamp, or similar DSP platforms.
    • Experience supporting live television or sports broadcast productions.
    • Basic knowledge of RF wireless microphone systems and antenna distribution.
    • Understanding of IP networking fundamentals, including VLANs and managed network switches.
    • Technical degree, certification, or formal training in Audio Engineering, Broadcast Technology, or a related discipline

Summary of Physical Requirements and Work Environment:

This position works primarily in a live production and broadcast environment and requires the ability to lift and move equipment weighing up to 50 pounds. The role involves working around technical equipment, racks, cable infrastructure, and production spaces while following established safety procedures. Candidates must be able to stand, walk, bend, and perform equipment setup and troubleshooting activities for extended periods. Availability to work flexible schedules, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and other hours required to support live productions and events, is essential.
