About the role

We’re seeking a skilled Lead AV Technician to join our team of expert designers, engineers, and technicians. The ideal candidate will be knowledgeable and skilled in the setup, installation, commissioning, and operation of commercial-grade audio-visual systems, have the ability to independently troubleshoot and solve challenges, and be a strong leader. Requirements for Lead Audio-Visual Technician:

Technical Skills & Knowledge

  • AV Systems Installation
    • TVs & LED video walls
    • Projectors & projection screens
    • Conference room AV peripherals (speakers, ceiling microphones, PTZ cameras)
    • Video conferencing systems (e.g. Teams Room kits)
    • Control systems & touch panels
    • AV rack building and wiring
  • Cabling & Infrastructure
    • Experience with structured cabling systems
    • Pull, terminate, connect, and test Cat 6, Cat6A, SDI, HDMI, USB, speaker wire
    • Build, dress, and label AV racks cleanly and professionally
    • Read and interpret blueprints, signal flow diagrams, and shop drawings
    • Understand the signal flow and functionality of full AV systems
    • Coordinate pathway routing with other trades
  • System Commissioning
    • Basic networking knowledge (IP addressing, DHCP, VLAN concepts)
    • Understanding of AV signals, uses, and limitations (HDMI, SDI, USB, balanced and unbalanced audio, speaker signals)
    • Perform basic system testing and troubleshooting
    • Verify signal flow and device communication
    • Support programmers and engineers during commissioning

Leadership & Project Execution

  • Lead and supervise field technicians and subcontractors
  • Perform field engineering work as needed
  • Plan daily/weekly work activities based on project schedule
  • Maintain productivity, workmanship quality, and safety standards
  • Communicate effectively with Project Managers and Field Superintendents
  • Track labor hours and report job progress
  • Identify scope changes and field issues proactively
  • Comfortable coordinating with electrical and other trades

Education, Certifications, & Experience

  • 5+ years of hands-on AV installation experience
  • 1–3 years of crew leadership or foreman experience preferred
  • High school diploma or equivalent (technical training or trade school beneficial)
  • AVIXA CTS or CTS-I certification preferred
  • QSC Q-SYS Level 0 and Level 1 preferred
  • Dante Level 1 and 2 preferred
  • Crestron Commercial Technician Certification beneficial

  • Comfortable working on ladders and lifts
  • Ability to work in construction environments
  • Ability for full-time work
  • Ability to travel to job sites daily, mainly within Central Ohio metro area
  • OSHA 10 preferred; OHSA 30 beneficial
