You write the code that runs the building


Most programming jobs end at a screen. This one ends at a 12,000 square foot estate where one button press dims 40 lighting loads, drops the shades, warms the theater, arms the perimeter, and starts the movie. You wrote that. It has to work the first time, every time, at 9pm on a Friday, for a client who does not care what a race condition is.

You own the system for its whole life: design review, logic, drivers, commissioning, client training, and the updates that keep it excellent for years. No throwing code over a wall. You see the thing you built get used, and you get to make it better.


What makes this technically interesting

  • You are the integration layer. Lighting, climate, AV, security, shading, pool, and spa all speak different protocols and none of them agree. Your job is to make them behave like one product.
  • Real hardware, real constraints. Processors with finite resources, devices that lie about their state, HDCP handshakes that fail for reasons nobody documented. Debugging here is genuinely hard and genuinely satisfying.
  • You write drivers. When a third party device has no module, you build one in SIMPL# / C# against the vendor's API or serial spec.
  • You design the UX. Touch panel layouts, scene naming, and interaction flow are yours. Elegant logic behind a confusing interface is a failed project.
  • Deterministic wins. No shipping and patching later. Systems get commissioned, handed off, and lived in.
  • Range. Residential estates one month, a commercial facility the next. Different problems, same craft.


What you will actually do

  • Program and configure Crestron control systems (Crestron Home, SIMPL Windows, SIMPL#, SIMPL#Pro) for residential estates and commercial facilities.
  • Develop the control logic unifying AV, lighting, climate, security, and shading into one intuitive interface.
  • Program and configure DSPs, primarily Biamp, for audio routing, mixing, and processing.
  • Design clean, client ready touch panel experiences with clear room, source, and scene naming.
  • Write custom drivers and integration code for third party devices and subsystems.
  • Commission systems on site and remotely, support them through our Loyalty Care program, and partner with PMs and techs to isolate whether an issue is programming, wiring, networking, equipment, or design.


The stack

Crestron: Crestron Home, Toolbox, processors, touch panels, keypads, lighting and shade integration, DM / NVX / NAX, diagnostics, SIMPL / SIMPL# / C#.

AV: Audio and video signal flow, HDMI / HDCP / EDID, distributed audio, surround, displays, projectors, matrix switching, DSP, rack layout.

Networking: DHCP and static addressing, subnetting, VLANs, multicast / IGMP, mDNS, device discovery, remote access tooling such as OvrC.

Integrations: Lutron, Sonos, Josh.ai, Biamp, Q SYS, Alarm.com, security and surveillance, HVAC, pool and spa, motorized screens, lifts, shades.


Required

  • Solid Crestron experience: object oriented design, clean maintainable code, methodical debugging.
  • Ability to read system block diagrams and signal flow documentation.
  • A strong desire to build a career in automation control.


Preferred (we will teach the rest)

  • SIMPL Windows, SIMPL#, or SIMPL#Pro certification, or the willingness to pursue it.
  • DSP programming: Biamp (Tesira / Audia), QSC Q SYS, BSS, or similar.
  • AV signal flow fundamentals (HDMI / HDBaseT, audio routing, switching).
  • Other control platforms (AMX, Savant, Control4).
  • Networking basics (TCP/IP, VLANs). Control systems live on networks.
